I think I've just been clocked by a safety camera van doing probably around 40 in a 30 (empty wide road with great visibilty). I found out from my father who has lived 1/2 a mile away for the last 50 years that the van is now a regular feature on the A50 coming into Knutsford, in fact they have built a laybye specifically for this van. I feel particularly aggrieved since I generally drive very carefully in built up areas and can often be found playing the numpty doing 35 in a 30 in rush hour driving into Manchester with a queue of irrate drivers behind me or undertaking. Outside built up areas, lets just say I match speed with vision
My question is, is there any way I can fight this ? are there any technicalities I can call on ?
TIA

Do a little past search through the Forum mate, i've found a wealth of topics of interest from the past. There'll be lots of good advice from people in similar situations. Give your dad an ear-bashing for having not warned you either!!

1st of all it's not a safety van - it's a revenue collecting van.

2nd of all - as suggested get over to www.pepipoo.com, look for the PACE argument in the forums

Good luck

The Hamiltons used to live in Knutsford. I went through that camera a few months ago at about 50. Fortunately at the time the numpties at DVLA, or Lala land as I prefer to call it had lost my registration details so the car came up as no registered keeper.

Cheshire scumrashit death / theft parasites commune are a bit crap at the old follow up. I have had a few NIPs in cheshire and got rid of all except 1 (that was a actual cop, nice bloke, did not say much just "heres ticket" I think look on my face told him a lecture was pointless. )

Anyhow in short the solicitors who advertise on the ABD website for Manchester will pretty much guarantee to get you off for about 300 quid. I think its the same firm Beckham used when the tossers started picking on him. Or alternatively you can look at the verious defenses available to you on the web as suggested by others. My experience with Cheshire is as soon as you stop jumping through their admin hoops there is a good chance they will lose track of your case. I reckon its down to the type of sandalist they employ (too many spliffs at lunch).

Good luck.

Like the man said, he can be a bit blunt sometimes.

I like it though.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

Thanks for the replies - I feel even more aggrieved today. whilst I said I may have been doing 40, I don't really know. I was driving at an appropriate speed for the road and conditions and it was probably "around" 30 but my attention was on the road and pavements not glued to the damn speedo. I am going to throw some cash at this one. Mr Freeman will be getting a call Monday a.m.

Plead not guilty...have a look at the picture before the court appearance and await the outcome...

It's unlikely that you'll get more than 3 points....if found guilty..more likely double/treble the fine and approx £35 court costs.
Together with the loss of a day as you wait around in the Magistrates Court...

If you can spare the time and the potential extra cash...go for it...you've paid your taxes....these public servants are working for you...

Is someone impersonating a police officer?

Where is the streetcop we, ummm, tolerate?

Huh, could have fooled me! They are a complete waste of space, time, effort, money and the rest.

Like most things nowadays, i'm afraid....

and like most things.....you don't have a choice..

You do however, have a choice whether to speed or not...and the old rule about keeping to the limits in the 30s,40s and 50s seems to keep most people penalty point free..

Aye, it's worked for me - so far. I expect my downfall will ultimate be getting caught a long way over the NSL.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

Not in Cheshire - they (and I think it's Police, not Scamera Partnership) reqularly monitor the new A500 dual carriageway that links Nantwich to (almost) J16 of the M6.
They hide on, but to the side, and under, the last footbridge as you're heading towards Nantwich. This really is outrageous - it's a brand new, very high standard road, with no pedestrians and little traffic. I'm not aware of there being any serious accidents on that road.

How true.... And I excercise that choice every time I drive. The only time my speedo shows the limit is when I'm accelerating through it or braking back down. Oh, and for about twenty seconds around any scameras I see

Speed limits, pah I fart in their general direction!

know the feeling, i,ve just been done as well. on a dual carriage way, 60 mph limit, approaching the M54 and for 200 yds the speed limit drops to 40, and i was clocked by one of the afore mentioned safety/ revenue cameras doing 53 as i accelerated to join the motorway slip road. no way out of it, bite the bullet and pay the fine. b....rds. peter

my last set of points where from M25 11.45 at night, me and 2 other cars, one a MLM, the other white volvo long way back in my mirrors.

I was doing about 95ish, at least thats what they told me my average was for the last 3 miles, could have been worse, but a note of caution for all who think 30,40 and 50 strict and else where is ok.

No, don't bite the bullet. Look on 'Pepipoo' and fight it. You'll be in with a good chance and it will waste some of their time as well.
