IPD plenum/GT3 TB on a 986S
Discussion
Hi guys
First post but long time reader - me and a million other guys
So I've got to that point that I need a little more power on my 986S and the obvious choice was pointed out by a 996C4 owner friend - Go the IPD plenum route
I know there's not a general consensus on the matter but in my mind it makes sense: more air, more power
In the forum I've read that a couple of owners (two) have actually made it possible to use the 82mm GT3 TB on the 986S IPD plenum which I'm baffled as IPD itself recommends the smaller 74mm one for the 986S
Any info on this would be greatly appreciated - I know, I know 'save your money' 'it doesn't work' 'no more hp than before...' I've read all of those already
Thank you very much in advance

Cheaper and easier to use 996 plenum and 996 throttle body. 82mm too big. More info on boxa.netFirst post but long time reader - me and a million other guys

thanks edc just thought the bigger TB of the GT3 would give more power
Hi
Perhaps not a direct comparison, but my 987S (3.2) had work carried out by Parr Motorsport which included the enlarged IPD plenum throttle body, full Miltek and air filter.
It was the previous owner who had undertaken the work. I was hesitant to buy a 'modified' Porsche initially but the performance gains and the noise would be best described as an excellent but subtle enhancement over standard.
I sold the car in July and will be looking for a replacement in the new year, but wouldn't hesitate to go down this route again.

I already have a Borla exhaust installed so that end is covered

If it's power you are chasing and you've only done the exhaust back box then get some sports manifolds. The ebay cheapy ones work fine for the money and I've had them on both my Boxsters. Also a pair of sports cats 100 or 200 cell will help. After that 987 airbox to go with the 996 plenum and throttle body. With 996 throttle body, manifolds, exhaust and standard airbox I dyno'd around +25bhp. My 550 now has the 987 airbox as standard which is much bigger and did have 100 cell cats too.
thanks edc
I'll look into it asap
hopefully i can find some more hp somewhere and make the car faster and more fun at the same time
Thanks again everybody

The options are here. But significant improvements must be individually tested after each step in the progression which means access to a dyno and road testing are critical.
It is easy to get something that looks good on paper but is not pleasant to drive.
