About 6 years ago used to do lots of filming and editing @ a semi pro level , I used Sony Vegas and was pretty good at basic stuff, no Spielberg but customers always happy

I used Final Cut and Sony Vegas, I instantly gelled with both software after a few hours and could get cracking with producing work and then read up on how to do more advanced stuff.

Just finished a new company website and fancy doing some motion graphics/infographics videos on key concepts and financial basics, just short videos illustrating points and selling the company. I thought the most appropriate software would be After Effects (for the graphics at lease) ...

So downloaded After Effects trial and signed up to some tutorials and blimey after a day of trying to learn im one step forward two steps back! I found it really hard to learn and not really getting anywhere. Part of the issue is that I don't use Photoshop and After Effects seems linked and similar . I think I could struggle through and learn it, but seeing as it will be just for a few projects its not really worth the sustained effort. Tempted to go back to Vegas and do what I can graphics wise?

Or is are there any more straightforward options for professional looking short motion graphics videos ?

You're really not going to learn a program as in depth as AE in a day, if it were that easy, everyone would be at it.

YouTube the hell out of tutorials, like anything, keep with it and it'll come with time.

Personally I have just moved from After effects to Sony Vegas and found it a breath of fresh air, much easier to work with and better results ( for example the video stabilisation in Vegas works better and is much faster than After effects). My only complaint is that Sony doesn't make good use of the graphics card to render.

Cheers for the posts, Yeah I agree about I need to put more time in , my only issue with AE is that I put a fair few hours in and still feel stuck!

Think I need to plan out what video content I actually want to achieve a bit more

It will click eventually.
My advice is learn the shortcuts, especially the ones for revealing particular keyframes for position, scale etc.
