TYRES FOR 993 TARGA
Discussion
Standard 993 targa wheels are not 18 inchs. They all came with a five spoke design specific to the targa. Think it may have been a 16 or 17 inch alloy.

As standard the car was fitted with 17 inch "split rim" alloys as per the top photo of the red targa. You quite often see them changed for cup 2 style alloys because although they were 17 inch they give the impression of being 16 inch because of the rather fat outer body of the wheel.
They were no lighter than any other Porsche alloy particularly, certainly not to counter any extra weight. Porsche refer to all their wheels as light alloy. You strive to lose weight on the alloy wheel because it reduces the unsprung weight and makes keeping the wheels on the ground easier for the suspension, (to the suspension it`s a bit like trying to stop a fat bloke running into you rather than a little skinny bloke).
Hope that helps and I trust it wasn`t an imported "30k mls" car !

It doesn`t but the car does. Just making sure it wasn`t a car we`d rejected !
Re: the photo of the Arena red 993, the top photo shows the car with 993 Targa alloys, the bottom one with 993 17 inch "Cup 2" alloys.
The Turbos were mostly fitted swept spoke "cup 3" or Turbo S style alloys.
