Can PS4 Pro play 4K mp4 files from HDD?

I quite often use my PS3 to play 1080P mp4 files onto my big TV, either from my PC over the network, or from an external HDD plugged into the PS3 itself. My new camera records 4K video, so I'd like to know whether the PS4 Pro could do the same trick but in 4K resolution?

I have one and would be happy to carry out any test. Only issue is I don't have a 4k tv.

I guess the question is: Does the PS4 have a 4k media player?

Google may help you better than pistonheads.

Just tried it on my PS4 Pro and nope doesn't recognise the file in Media Player. Shocking really as neither my Xbox one nor my PS4 Pro can play 4K video, not even transcode it down to 1080p to play. Using VLC on a crappy microPC can manage it no problem. Really annoying as my 2 year old Nokia Windows Phone and my 1 year old Samsung S7 all allow 4K video recording, but these High Def games machines can't cope with it!
