I have a much loved S4 04 plate V8. 178,000.

It has had a slight delay on turning the key before cranking esp when cold. This has turned into sometimes doesn't crank at all, but then does if you wait 2-3 minutes..

Audi plugged it in for £90 and said .. Computer says no.. No fault, so we can't fix it. I asked why they couldn't deduce from the symptoms, which apparently they could not..

Anyone any ideas please. I'm thinking a sticky relay somewhere..

More than likely to be the ignition switch.

I would agree with the above, faulty ignition switch.

Just reading up on it, met sounds as though I should not be hearing the master relay clicking, which I am. Do you think it could still be the switch?

It's more likely to be the starter solenoid; you would here that click if the motor itself doesn't turn. Big job even checking it on the S4, so hard to get in at anything on the engine.

How old is your battery?

Battery is less than a year in fact. I got a big old Bosch one, so it shouldn't be that. Audi tested it as well..

There's a relay that does like to play up on them for the starter motor, but as previously said, it's more likely to be the actual starter itself unfortunately.
