I'm nearing the end of the rebuild but noticed yesterday, after fitting the alarm siren in its new position inside the wing, that I still need to sort the headlights out, before firing up the engine for the first time (which I thought was going to happen before year end). As I don't want to faff about with new headlight pods, units with the radiator in place.

So is the current crop limited to OE TVR replacements, Lupo or Speed 6 (which I don't want)?
All the old stuff is ripped out and never going back in as it was in poor condition. Just the wiring and empty apertures remain.

I don't mind a bit of grp fabrication to make an alternative part fit. And I do like the idea of the Griff style pods making it water tight.

Thanks
Cad

There's an excellent headlight thread here
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=145...

If you read nothing else, read ChimpOnGas's summary, which is presently the last post on that thread.

I priced this and found the replacement reflectors from Racetech were much cheaper than getting existing ones re-silvered in particular because the replacements came with new adjuster screws my existing ones being almost non existent from rust.

This.
The whole fitment was scrap that came off my car. It was a mess. I suppose I could go with new OE and buy the lense covers to finish it off scratchchin

Not yet - still trying to get the bugger back!!! biggrin

We ran them for a couple of weeks in my mates MX-5 and they were much better than the standard sealed beams with standard wattage bulbs (even though they were the "Nightbreaker" type) ... a little bit of an odd experience as they have a very sharply defined cutoff on dipped beam but a good amount of light. On main beam they certainly threw more light up the road than the standard sealed beams...

I am toying with the idea of throwing one of these in the 'mouth' so that it's hopefully hidden (I don't usually run with the grille fitted anyway)...

Tamy came with the genuine Jeep lights - trucklite are copies - and they are leagues ahead of incandescent units. Also fitted the Landrover versions to the Reserve and, again, they are a vast improvement.

Genuine Jeep lights? Arent the genuine Jeep lights what people are compleining about not being very good on the Jeeps and Jeep forums?

What are they copies of?

LandRover versions of what?

You have mentioned this before ...

It would be good to find out why yours are disappointing and yet others seem to be happy with them - you're certainly not the only person that I've heard of that's disappointed with the beam pattern being patchy but then again some people are over the moon with theirs (and the beam pattern on a Lupo isn't patchy from what I remember)...

There was a recall by VW last year about the headlights being poor smilesmile.

I don't know any VW drivers complaining about their head lights being poor?

Trucklite copied Jeep's design. Landrover Defender also had an LED headlamp option. Already posted numerous times my satisfaction with the various LED set ups I've used. Plus the set ups that didn't work.
