My battery is dead as a dodo. I've tried to jump it using a pair of leads and the "special," leads that attach to the female socket just behind the front wheel
using the wifes Ka. Its not even turning over . Any ideas folks??

I would suggest putting it on charge!

this might seem like a silly question but is it okay to attch the tiny little crocodile clips on my charger to the big bu66ers on the lead that comes out of the female socket behind the front wheel??

Not 100% sure But I would have thought that if you can jump start from another battery using this connection a trickle charger will not cause a problem.

I'll also edit the title to add a help!

Yep i charged my battery this way when my door switch was draining my battery a while back, you shouldn`t have any problems, however i would only advise a 4/6amp trickle charge, i`m surprised you don`t get any power from the donor vechicle, here is a tip open the boot (if poss) and see how bright the boot light is, now connect up your jump leads and make sure the light goes brighter, this way you will know that the connections are right, i learnt the hard way because if your charger port hasn`t been used for i while you might have to juggle it a bit to get a good connection.

You'll probably find that it will, just keep an eye on it to start with, the amps will start high and slowly drop as it takes the charge.

Would advise you to invest in an Accumate trickle charger about £40 IIRC leave it plugged in when not in use and the battery will be in tip top condition next time you use it.

one more question-I've owned the car since new (4th birthday yesterday!!) and I've never changed the battery - how long do they usually go on for?

You will need to charge for more than 3hrs Scotty, try 24hrs plus and keep an eye on your charger, i presume you will have some sort of indication as to the state of the battery charge?
good luck

did u get it charged ?

done this myself a few times. It won't take a decent charge rate. AND don't do it without disconnecting battery from car !! anything more than a trickle charge can bugger the electrics.

disconnect earth lead from battery to car, then slow charge the battery (not fast charge). Leave it 24 hours and keep an eye on it to make sure its not bubbling acid by charging too quickly.

then... buy an accumate and use it to make sure it doesn't happen again :-)
