Here's a tip. When having new tyres fitted ensure the fitter is not deaf.

I SAID ENSURE THE FITTER IS NOT DEAF!!!

Mine misheard "22psi" and instead went for 32psi.

Thought the front end was a bit light.

Anyway. It was obvious they weren't right so I stopped at the first garage/petrol station to check. In the space of a second or two I got five readings off the forecourt pressure gauge varying from 22 to 36psi. After a bit of faffing I got a more or less 22psi reading and things felt a lot better afterward.

I've one of those pencil shaped pressure gauges round here somewhere so shall check them again tomorrow but how accurate are these type of gauges?

PS If I'd suffered an accident as a result of incorrect tyre pressures what would have been my chances of redress against the garage/petrol station? I was tempted to tell them their gauge was U/S but somehow feel they wouldn't care much.

I bought a digital pressure guage from halfwits, well worth the money. When I picked up my Tuscan from the dealer, I checked the tyre pressures and they all had 11 psi
I never trust a forecourt guage.

Just remember that's why they're called "Tyre Fitters"....

I keep the one for my racing kart in the boot of the cerbera. It has a good range and a button to decrease the pressure, only about £25.

the pen / slider type work well if kept oiled and put on square, I've had bad expieriences with cheap digital ones . go for mechanical

My friendly fitter always puts 35 - 40psi in to bed the bead then lets them down to what ever pressure I ask for.
