I know this will have been done to death before but I was in my local shopping mall today (Lakeside, Thurrock for those of you that know it) and once of the shops had 30% off some of their Omegas. Typically, the one I like - a Seamaster Regatta, wasn't in the sale but the salesgirl said they'd be happy to negotiate and it was a good time to do it as the sales were on.

I need a new bathroom and £3k would go a fair way towards it but I can't say I'm not tempted to go back and see what they can offer. So, what would be a realistic discount off a Regatta? They list at £3,800.

Strangely i have found they are willing to discount less when sales are on, i geuss as more people will buy at the generic 20% off figure thinking they have a bargain.

I'd start with giving Dom Hackett a call.

Give it a few days though because he's currently away skiing.

Any reason you didn't ask there and then when they said they'd be open to negotiation?

Because I didn't want to be one of those PITA customers that negotiates and then at the last minute says 'Thanks but I need to go away and think about it.'

If I'm going to go in there and talk figures, I want to be 100% certain that I'll buy if the price is right. Hence the question about realistic discount - if it's 10-15%, then there's no point in even starting a conversation.

10% on Omega is a very lowest starting point for me on non-sought after, rarer models.

So you make them an offer of what you are prepared to spend?

Blowers have a unused one for £3350 WF have a mint one but used for £3150.

I'd be surprised if you can get the new one for under £3k looking at the 2nd hand market on CH24.

Iconic are offering it at £3480 they used to be pretty good on discounts on Omega but prices look to have firmed up.

Maybe he's just musing the idea at the moment and doesn't want to buy it "right now" but would like an idea of the likely price without wasting the sale persons time, by making offers he isn't going to honour right there and then?

Pretty much that, in a nutshell.

The shop listing Omegas at 30% off sound like they've lost their concession and are clearing stock. Is there an Omega boutique there?

Omega don't like their products being sold at big discounts!

Private negotiation could see 20% or a bit more, but will depend on a number of factors.

As already suggested, speak to Dom once he's back, and he can take all the stress out of it. Unless you enjoy the haggle!

15%: https://www.chronext.co.uk/omega/seamaster/212-30-...thumbup

TZ-UK code on Sales Corner gets an extra £100 off and using a debit/credit card another 1%.

There were only about 8-10 watches on discount, not the whole range.

No Omega boutique nearby, I don't think.
