I haven't any definite plans yet, although the Giro Blockhaus day is a BIG possibility. With that in mind going to focus on climbing so -
1) Climb Bignor Hill (the toughest in Sussex) once a month
2) Climb 10,000m a month
3) complete a 100 mile ride each month

I'd quite like to do London-Edinburgh-London.

All of my 2016 goals have so far fallen by the wayside.

* One 100 miler per month for 12 months? Failed in August. Poor admin really, on my part, rather than any physical inability.

* Exceed my 2015 mileage? That was over 6,126 miles. I'm on 5,833 as of today so that one doesn't look likely.

* Complete the Rapha Festive 500? Still possible, but my Garmin Edge 500 'froze' 60 miles into a 93.5 mile ride. So I need 40 miles per day to complete it, rather than the 29-ish miles per day I should need. Today was my one chance to put in a big ride, so it's looking like a big ask now.

So my 2017 goals will probably look pretty similar to 2016's...

Not as grand as some, but aiming to complete the Bealach Mor in September... May not sound much, but I've not done much road cycling, and any I've done recently has been MTB.

Got a road bike last week and managed 20 minutes on the rollers last night. It's a small start, but a start none the less.

Mine are more personal, I'm ditching all goals, but not plans - I had lots of goals for 2016, I achieved a lot of them, but it came at a cost - the fun factor.

I'm an MTBer.

Stop using Strava, I set myself a mileage goal this year, which I passed in November which I'm happy with, but it's become a very negative, caustic thing now - I'm looking for short-cuts, tenths to shave and in truth taking silly risks to do so that will ultimately lead to much pain and suffering.

Ride more, I used to say I couldn't because I simply don't have any more days in the week to ride and that hasn't changed sadly, I can sneak a few cheeky ones in now and again now my daughter is a bit older - but to ride more, I have to ride further - something that started at the tail end of 2016, I used to think a lap of Cwmcarn was a decent day out, but I've found that with a little extra fitness 2 laps isn't hard, or ideally 2 different trails in one go.

Have more fun, cruising the fast bits rather than trying to pin every corner isn't 'a waste' I've found lots of sneaky little features to pop, bus stops to take and 'walls' to ride on trails I thought I knew every inch of by having fun.

Get over my fear of drops - I've got the course booked, I've been riding for more than a decade now, I've ridden some of the most famous and stupid trails any normal person would ever ride, and I still can't ride drops properly - time to do something about it.

Ride up and down Snowdon before the embargo starts in May.

Passportes in June a few days after my 40th, I still don't like the event, but I only completed 90% of it last time.

Actually ride would be a start after 2016 was my worst on the bike!

Get 1000 miles in by April

Ride the Ridgeway and part of the Icknield Way in 1 hit (from Hitchin) as a shakedown for trips

Tuscany trail in June (poss) (after the abysmal showing last year, so I have the option of going back, hopefully it won't be wet!!)

The 5 countries tour in August ( www.a-crossthe5.be), will be a toughie as its 1100 km in 7 days or less with 18km of climbing. One of the guys I met on the Tuscany Trail last year is organizing it

Simplest goal is to ride at least 100+km ride per month, with a total monthly average of over 600km.

More focused is to complete the Super Randdoneur with best friend. We've picked the 2, 3 and 600 events. Just need to decide on the 400.

I really like P-Jay's plans. They sound good and I feel the same way with regards to drops.

Mine is simple: I want to ride more. Commute to work on the bike, and put in more time off road too. I need to ride some new places and put in the miles and I can't wait!

I managed ride london is sub 4hrs 30 this year, 750km short on my 7k km target for the year.

Did my biggest solo ever this year on my 40th of 226km.

Biggest for next year is Marmotte, hope do better than just finish. Just tried garage riding on rollers on TR and Zwift. So need to decide on which one to press on with, and also invest in a Turbo.

Other target is a double imperial century, looking at Fleet to Weymouth and back. If any north Hants riders want to join then I may start a seperatre thread.

Oh, a few days after Marmotte we are doing three ascents of Ventoux in a day (weather dependent).

Win more races, go faster in time trials, lose a bit of weight. I really should be able to go better at the nationals this year, I've made quite a big jump watts wise, so hoping I can pull it all together.

Stop the gangs of riders trying to take my Richmond Park KOM by making it faster wink

Structured training (finally), disciplined rides and maintaining consistency through the year.
A decent showing at London-Edinburgh-London is probably the big goal.
Bag myself an entry for TCR No6 in 2018.
North Coast 500 record attempt (team or solo, depending on how training goes in H1).
Hebridean Way record attempt.
Taklamakan Desert Highway record attempt (it's 'easy' at the moment, but Guy Martin has given it some profile).
Try some TTs.
Paris-Roubaix.
Revolve24, solo.
Mersey Roads 24h.
100kph.

I don't think I'll manage all of that but hopefully most of it.

Get a new bike.

I've only signed up for the Etape so far. Three of us are doing that.

We're both keen to watch a Spring Classic and ride some of the course so either Roubaix/Ronde in April. He also mentioned about the Tour of Yorkshire with is future FIL.

I'm out for NYE with my girlfriend, my riding partner and his fiancée so maybe get some drunken ideas put in the diaries and signed off.

That is an interesting list, I managed 92kph this year. Had to rein it in due to crosswinds!
What is the existing NC500 record? Isn't it 30kph average of something?

31h 23m. Ex pro Jimmy Mac rode an average of 28.5kph and had 2 hours of non-pedalling time. It's a hell of an effort and I think it's unlikely I can beat that. I worked out I'd need to average 200W for 31 hours. A totally non-stop ride at 26.5koh would take it, but that's not realistic and yet even that would be impressive. The whole route is crazy lumpy and exposed to lot of spicy Scottish weather. If I figure there's less than 1 in 3 chance of snatching it then I may look to recruit a small team of ultra-distance specialists and shoot for the team record, currently at 36 hours. I'd like to think we could break 30 hours with the right group.

I forgot to add KOM'ing the descent off Teide #chopper
