My Dad bought a new one. Very good stereo. One of the best I have heard. Sound at everything else. A little unreliable but middle of the road and great value. He sold it after a number of years as was getting expensive to run. Questionable image but who cares!

I had one as a renter for two weeks in Florida. I loved it. Ideal for just cruising around.

I am not sure whether I would own one as an only car though, nor if I wanted to go anywhere quickly.

I had a 2007 SRT8 - ran it for three and a half years and about 60k miles. Mine was black with every option available. Despite it's somewhat questionable image (much more so in the UK than here in US) it was a fantastic car.

Points for:
Big - big enough to seat 5 grown-ups in proper comfort
Comfy - front seats particularly were very pleasant and multi adjustable
Voluminous - the boot was massive
Bad fast - mine had a 6.1liter 425hp Apache V8 - masses of torque that could propel 4200 lbs from 0-60 in about 5 seconds and 0-100 in less than 13. I added a few performance bits and pieces and it was a proper bruiser.
Huge Brembos - The brakes were utterly brilliant - need to be, given all the mass.
MB 5-GTronic - a very stout transmission that was silky when burbling and really positive in WOT gear changes.
Bilstein shocks - helped it handle VERY well for such a big car.

Points against:
Low rent - Nasty, hard plastic on door capping and dash/console
Special tools required - Transmission service means a trip to a main dealer
Fuel consumption - Somewhat thirsty
Tyre consumption - just as bad
Replacement parts - Headlamp unit= $1000, Catalytic Converter= $1000, Front strut= $1000 Trans control unit= $1000 - see a trend?
Pricey Upgrades - Diablo Predator flash tuner (essential in my experience) about 400 quid. Because I drag raced mine, I upgraded my half-shafts (after I de-splined one). Strange Engineering replacements (un-breakable) were (you guessed it) about $1000.

I absolutely loved mine and the latest gen SRT8 is an absolute monster of a car.

Here's mine...

I think you missed off: "do you have a thick fold of skin on the back of your neck?" or "do you own a slot-machine arcade in Skegness?"smile

There's always the lovely Cadillac STS as a classy alternative....

I travelled in a diesel model taxi once. It wasn't that bad. I was struck by how 'American' it was for a UK offering, though by American standards it would be quite good. Not 'Town Car' good, but good enough. Quiet, smooth and spacious. I'd happily own one, despite the dreadful image they appear to have.

It was thirsty but did everything needed of it really well

The Baby Bentley version of the 300C seems to be the weapon of choice for every caravan park and static home site owner and executive wedding hire business here in the Essex Badlands.

That particular edition invariably comes fully equipped with absolutely ridiculous alloys and a illegal number plate as well as a couple of stolen microwaves in the boot and a distinct whiff of hen night vomit about the upholstery so if that's your thing you'll be keeping company with some fine upstanding members of the community.

Nope. RR Sport owners are the people who live in the caravans and pay cash for the dodgy microwaves... smile

Mate of mine has a diesel one, he absolutely loves it, but it is rather expensive to run, simple things like headlamps, tires etc.. all cost twice to four times what they would cost on a normal car.

And TBH, the interior is getting a bit dated.

I'd buy a V8 but they get used as cabs so have a duff image. Those who buy the nicer black ones tend to chav them up with a lack of taste.

With the right wheels and tyres and maybe a playing down of the chrome, they can still look good.
Never much liked the Vectra-esque rear lights though.

I think Chrysler have pulled out of the UK market so I would be a bit worried about the spares and repairs situation - especially for those parts which are not Mercedes. For example the panels, interior trim, infotainment etc.

I think you would be at the mercy of a Fiat dealer, which is generally not a good place to be smile

The US parts market is always going to be huge and though shipping costs can be high, overall, it's still reasonable value.

Never been in one but I do recall daydreaming at the time they were new out about importing them from the States and selling them to chavs at a price reduced enough to get past the LHD.

I'd read in the Telegraph (oh, the irony!) that they were popular in their home market as they were the cheapest new car that could fit 22s under the arches. I was convinced UK 'gangsters' would follow suit and, to a certain extent, that appears to be the case.

Probably best I didn't sink my life savings into such an enterprise though!

Just seen some of the 63 plate cars on eBay. Don't think I've ever seen one of the more recent ones on the road.
