2nd fan not working

The second fan on my 1996 500 is not working. Now that the temperature in France has risen to 25 degrees, the system is struggling to stay below 100 degrees in town.
I checked the fuses and it seems my model has only one fuse (40 amps) so this can't be it otherwise number 1 wouldn't work either. I checked the wiring on top of the fans: there are two sets of wires coming from the nose. I switched the plugs the result being that the same fan still doesn't work. I opened up the faulty fan but with my limited knowledge (read: zero) I couldn't see anything wrong with it.

any ideas?

As far as I can see, you've proved that the faulty fan is ... er ... faulty! Would be worth checking for a wiring fault between the connector and the fan, otherwise I guess you're looking for a new fan.

I have the twin fan upgrade on my 4.3 Griffith, and both of them have packed up at different times.

It seems like rain water, and/or water from washing the car pours down the bonnet and ends up in the fan motors. I usually switch the fans on after washing the car, to try and purge as much water as possible, which seems to make the problem go away for a bit longer.

I've just had to replace a fan on mine - Fairly easy, and achieved in under an hour. It cost about 90 quid from Christopher Neil.

connected the fan directly to 12V and it worked, so the fan itself is o.k. Must be one of the wires, I'll check.

I have put a cable tie on the connectors to pull them together (don't pull it too tight). I also put some rubber (bicycle inner tube) around them and taped it at both end as they seem to sit directly where the water falls onto them. No problems since.

Turns out my car has an upgrade which contains a seperate fuse and relay for the second fan, placed next to the fans in the engine bay. The fuse was simply desintegrated by the heat. Replaced the fuse, made a new shell to protect it and voila, job done!
