Just bought a 981 Porsche Cayman S
Discussion
I just went and sold my Jaguar F Type 5.0 and bought a Cayman S. Ok theres less power and noise than the Jag offers but what a great car this Cayman is! It's all the car you need, the handling the practicality the performance. This car is a keeper. I did a video which wont trouble Grand Tour but hey so what I enjoyed making it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5sJwi9NAvA I wonder what the discerning people on PH might think.
I think you have got the functionality of Sports Chrono and Sport mode wrong (unless someone has done a one-off customisation via the OBD2 socket). Sports Chrono doesn't affect the suspension - only stiffens the engine mounts. Nor does give the autoblip function with PDK - that comes as standard - but you do get an autoblipper in Sport+ on the manual car (which rather annoys those that want to heel and toe). Nor are Sport mode and PSE linked as far as I am aware, they have separate switches.

Sports chrono includes dynamic transmission mounts on the Cayman, not dynamic engine mounts.
Nice purchase and welcome to the club.
Given that the engine and transmission are one unit, it's not really a valid distinction. The aim is to stop the engine/transmission unit moving about too much under heavy braking/acceleration or cornering and affecting the handling.Nice purchase and welcome to the club.

I have been somewhat confused by the Sports Chrono option. I did visit a Porsche specialist who was insistent it was just a stopwatch for lap times and nothing to do with suspension/handling.
If you look on the configurator and click in the information button. It (sort of) tells you what it does. It has nothing to do with suspension, but includes dynamic engine mounts which does have an effect on handling. It implies it includes an autoblipper - but that is misleading in the case of PDK boxes. Frankly I think it's a very expensive stop watch and not much more on a PDK 981, though I would concede it might have some benefit on track. With the 718 you get a sport response button, but that seems little more than a gimmick to me when I tried it. However on the 718 you can selectively configure your own sport mode which is probably useful. Porsche themselves make the distinction between dynamic transmission mounts (Cayman) and dynamic engine mounts (911). I just pointed it out as it's often misstated on these forums.
I have a manual car and the throttle blip is very useful for ensuring smooth progress on road and in particular on track. In addition the Sports+ button changes the throttle sensitivity and also the stability control threshold. This is handy on track to allow more slip at the rear. No experience of Sports Chrono and PDK I'm afraid.

The 718 Sports chrono actually says dynamic ENGINE mounts. I can't be sure what it said for the 981, but as I say the distinction is largely irrelevant since the two are one unit.I have a manual car and the throttle blip is very useful for ensuring smooth progress on road and in particular on track. Ah, in that case there is a difference between the 981 and the 718 in this regard. We'll have to agree to disagree on your other point ;-)It does now say engine, as opposed to the 981 which was transmission mounts.
The blurb, as I recall, when the 981 came out was that it did not need engine mounts due to the mid engine layout, whereas the rear engined 911 had them due to the differing layout.
I wonder if this new need for them is actually that, with 4 cylinders, there's now actually more space to work with and what was said previously was actually guff.

Christ! The chap comes on to share his new car purchase and Porsche geek patrol crawls out from the undergrowth.
Congrats on the new car. Hope you enjoy it.
Please ignore the car bores and their tedious tech analysis.
Looks like you had fun shooting the video. Good effort.

As one of the geeks, I only contributed as I also have a 981 CS. :-)
Me too. There are lots of misconceptions about what this or that facility does - especially around Sport Chrono - and the discussion has hopefully corrected some of them (and enlightened me about the Sport/PSE link non/link) - hopefully to the benefit of the OP too. It's a pity that many of the salesmen of these cars aren't as clued up as they might be.Edited by bcr5784 on Monday 2nd January 08:19

Congratulations on your new steed Roger1361, interesting decision going from a hot rod like a Jaguar F Type V8 to a Cayman, both great cars, that V8 sounded amazing, less and less sports cars make a proper noise like that!
