As I have mentioned on a few threads, I sold my 111S a couple of weeks ago. I'm reckoning on an Elise free year (sob) then getting a 111R about this time next year, on a 06 plate. By which time they'll have sorted all the little foibles that the first customers find. Learnt that by buying the 61st S2 off the production line!

However, given that the S1 ran from 96 to 2000 and the S2 from 2001 to present, anyone any thoughts, tips, insider knowledge as to when a S3 may appear?

Having owned 3 Elises in the last 5 years, one thing I've learnt is that you can't believe a word Lotus say. Also, I start to smell a rat when Lotus start doing their cheap/free finance deals, as it usually means they are wanting to shift some stock.

What you all think???

Lotus are going to have to do another version for the US market when the dispensation runs out on the current model i.e - in order to get the 111R Fed Elise into the US, they had to bypass certain regs, which they could do as a small volume manufacturer IF they promise that the next version will meet the regs. This is for things like 5mph impact with no damage to bumpers etc. So if we do get an S3, expect it to be a lot heavier, with some form of bumpers in the front/rear clam etc etc.

I wouldnt hold out for one myself - every generation gets heavier and a little further away from the original concept IMO.

I was behind an S1 and it looked a lot smaller than my S2, is this the case.

I am not sure if we are further from the original concept. I agree that the S2 is heavier but it is also faster and more stable.
The lotus engineers say themselves that the S2 is the car they wanted when they did the S1. Even so I must agre that putting big bumpers on an elise is not a great idea.
We all know the americans are mad. They dont have to wear seatbelts and in some places they dont need crash helmets on bikes. why the beefy bumpers?

I agree with everything you say, Lotus aren't a charity, if they're doing super deals at the moment it's to shift cars. Plain and simple. We must be due a S3 by now?

Car 62? Pah. I've got car 7 - handbuilt in the workshops!

Can we speak about stock to sale when you need to wait 6 months before to have your Elise?

Ben, the still waiting future owner who hopes he will get it before next model is announced....

Ok I am drinving the wrong side of the street and the "sales" are only for UK.

Hi all,

I think your going to find that Bogie's right here, I don't think there working on a S3 at the moment, far from it in fact, I'd say a larger/super car may be on the way. They have at least another 2 year's to run on the currant model, I maybe wrong but I think the currant range may have a couple of additions

Now here's a rumour I'll start for everyone... I saw some F1 news snippet that Williams is talking with other engine manufacturers for when their supply contract runs out... now Lotus dealing with BMW for supercar engines??? ohhhhh... has the makings of a damn fine rumour!

trouble is i expect williams want free or cheap engines like they had with bmw were bmw spent a load on developing a first rate f1 engine i expect lotus will want williams to pay them a load for a f1 engine

I was thinking more along the lines of BMW gets Lotus to sort a chassis for their F1 engine. Little far-fetched, I know, but hey, I can dream, right?
