Just wanted to say I installed this today, dead easy to do. Installation time about 20 minutes. In case you're wondering, this is how I fitted it in simple steps:

1. Pull carpet away from fuel filler pipe and above the petrol tank

2. Wrap Jubilee clip provided around fuel filler pipe and leave slack

3. Put aerial amplifier unit behind pipe (it wedges in nicely)

4. Push aerial amp earth lead between Jubilee clip and fuel filler pipe, and tighten clip up

5. Stick long thin copper aerial to fibre glass section, just above the vent holes (warning - very sticky and flexible, don't pull all the backing off at once or it might get messy)

6. Route provided cable discreetly along top of petrol tank

7. Make hole on the right side of the petrol tank, push the cable through it (comes out just underneath floor carpet on parcel shelf)

8. Route cable under parcel shelf carpet, bring it out just behind the transmission tunnel loose change compartment - I used the old rear speaker cables to pull it through

9. Unscrew 4 screws from transmission tunnel (2 in compartment, other 2 either side of passenger footwells

10. Mark the screwholes in the footwells so you don't lose sight of them

11. Route cable under doorknob and gearknob, bring it out at the bit of carpet underneath the dash/radio

12. Pull radio out, route cable under the dash fascia, reach in with arm and pull it underneath, around, and to the back of the radio

13. Connect aerial plug to radio (shove the old one out of the way)

14. Connect power (runs alongside same bit of cable as aerial) to the blue wire that powers the powered aerial up/down motor (not fitted on Tivs obviously)

15. Tidy up

Reception is superb. A tiny bit of crackle occasionally on MW, but every station comes through loud and clear, no alternator noise or anything. Highly recommended!

If there is a little "air bourne" HT lead interference, you can open up a jubilee clip, drill hole in one end, mount on one of the plenum bolts,so when the bonnet is down it earths the underbonnet foil. Or as with most cars the foil is hanging down anyway, so not applicable !

pod,

thank you very much for posting this - v v helpful I fitted mine yesterday - bloomin fantastic difference.

Couple of comments on the method proposed.

I didn't put a hole on teh right of the fuel tank, but fed it through the speaker behind the driver then around the perimeter of the parcel shelf carpet.

Also 'just take the radio out' was quite difficult for me, I didn;t realise that you need flaty keys to insert down the side to unlock and then pull it out [or do you?]. My radio ffitter did it in a couple of minutes. [Street sounds ni brighton v helpful]

He also fitted the wires professionally and also spliced the dangling black at teh radio end as a second earth and I connected that too to the tank as directed for the original earth.

Fab - thanks for bothering to put the post up

I'll add my penny-worth to the excellent products of Mr Beer & MODWISE.

Not only does the Radio Aerial/Amp do what-it-says-on-the-tin, but the boot opener is another other classic of our time.

Thank you David Beer.

Agreed to both products, superb both. But get a stronger magnet for the boot opening kit and you don't have to be absolutely spot on as with the small one supplied. Scalextric magnets are ideal - drilled a hole in my leather key-fob and stuck it in place, works great.

How is your MW reception? FM is great, but MW is pretty poor when driving. With the engine off its ok, but driving around on 909 I get a horrid whistling sound.

Anyone got a web address for Modwise. The one I have doesn't seem to work any more. Could be the server's down I suppose.
