I was in the Supermarket the other handling some easter eggs as perspective gifts of cousins ect and strange throught can to mind Easter Eggs seem smaller and lighter than when I was a kid.

We've had the chocolate debate before, but easter eggs are something else.

A large percentage of them dont even bother to pretend to be chocolate anymore, they simply describe it as a 'chocolate flavoured egg'. Some of the top brands still flout the trades description act though (Do Cadburys actually make chocolate anymore? according to the ingredients on the back its not chocolate, even though it still says chocolate egg on the front of the box).

Wagon wheels are definitely smaller. They were the size of dustbin lids when I was a kid.

The Dove brand dark chocolate eggs are so intensely chocolate, just a few are enough for that chocolate craving. They come in a bag of small, foil wrapped chocolate eggs. They're not like the big, fancy decorated chocolate eggs, but who cares. They really pack a lot of chocolatey flavor. I always liked them better than the hollow chocolate bunnies, which just taste sweet.
Read the ingredients on the back (sugar, chocolate processed with alkali, chocolate, cocoa butter, milkfat, soy lecithin, natural and artificial flavors).

I have noticed that tesco has rammed the prices right down this year. 3 cadburys eggs for 4 pounds. Thats 1.30 ish for 185-200g of chocolate, more or less in line with price of simple 200g chocolate bars. If you could go back 5-10 years they use to cost 2.50 upwards minimum if i recall correctly. If you are a chocolate fan they now make economical sense pile um high

Easter eggs are complete rubbish, not sure about giving as presents to relatives you don't like but if you are wanting something better for your own children/nephews/nieces try some real cholocate for melting down and some moulds. Then help them to create their own chocolate animals, Action Men, Scooby Doo, whatever you can get. Taste better and they have fun making them.

I've always noticed that the use-by-date of Easter Eggs is always around May or June, where as 'normal' chocolate should keep for a year.

This makes me believe that they make easter eggs out of old chocolate that's either been lying around the warehouse or products that have been returned.
