PCM 3 - what modern music options have I got?

According to the manual for the dear old PCM in my 2015 Cayman, it's compatible with:

- iPhone 4 or 4S
- iPod Touch gens 1-4
- iPod Nano gens 3-6
- iPod Classic

... plus sundry other Apple devices. So if I buy a new Apple device (I was originally thinking iPod) it won't be compatible. So...

I could create a 'jukebox' via my 4S phone while I've still got it, but when I haven't got it I can't add tracks, so that will be that.

Could I hook any generation of iPhone to the USB socket for power and play tracks via Bluetooth? Even if I could I suppose I'd have to select what I want to do via the phone rather than the PC screen - correct?

Is there a software upgrade available through OPCs that would permit newer Apple devices?

What options do I have? Thanking you in advance...

New Apple devices will work with your car!

I have a 6s iPhone and works and plays music though the USB port with no problems in my 2015 GTS Cayman

Do you just use your standard lightning cable in the USB port?

Can you control via the PCM screen or just via phone?

Ah thanks. I guess it's old stuff that doesn't work with the PCM rather than the (old) PCM not working with the new.

All on the standard lightning cable and controlled through the PCM.

My 2013 had a recall in the US specifically for iPod connectivity.
