I have a fossil digital & analogue watch that is about 10 years old. I came across it recently and it wasn't working so I swapped out the large SR2016 3V battery but the display briefly showed some corrupt characters and then went blank again.

I had another look at it and noticed it also had a smaller battery beneath the large battery. I swapped that out and the analogue hands began to work. When putting the large battery back in the digital display briefly came on and the characters/numbers were all readable but it went out almost immediately.

I have since mucked about with the battery and have only on 2 other occasions managed the get the digital display to work and only for less than a second.

There is no value to this watch but I kind of like it and also don't want to be beaten! Any ideas?

The only thing I have noticed is the large battery SR2016{?} has a bit of protective sticky plastic on the back. I have tried it with and without but doesn't appear to make a difference. I have also checked the voltage on various batteries I have tried and all are reading 3V.

I am really loathed to bin it.
