Vodafone excessive charges
Discussion
Not quite sure where to post this, but I need some advice on a Vodafone 4g contract.
I recently bought a holiday let and needed wifi for the guests, when walking past a vf shop I noticed a bill board with an offer of wireless broadband for £20 PCM. Great I thought so I went in and explained what I needed it for i.e. Basic usage and odd film downloads etc and signed the paperwork.
Fast forward a couple of months and notice a payment for £241 going out the account, I make contact with vf and they can't find my account?? I thought oh well maybe I signed an annual dd so thought nothing more about it. We recently noticed an even larger payment going out the account so visited the store where I bought it. It turns out that we have been going over the 10gb allowance and have been charged £2k in excess data charges!!!!!
I have never been notified of going over the cap, never told about the excess charges etc etc.
Anyone know how I stand and how I should complain? I know you could argue I signed the paperwork so I should suffer the bill, but 2k in three months where the apartment had only been occupied for 4 weeks seams crazy!

Depends on what your tenants were downloading - I have to remind the other half about data when we're abroad, with a 1GB / month SIM in her iPad, she only has to download a few copies of the Times to exceed her data allowance.
If you've had people in who've been streaming music, streaming films, downloading app updates etc., then it's easy to blow your data in no time at all.
A single film downloaded in HD could easily be 4GB!

It seems a bit rash to assume such usage from paying guests. We have a nightmare at work with people blowing their data cap every month because they can't be bothered to connect to wifi.dalenorth1 said:

It seems a bit rash to just leave it at that.dalenorth1 said:

If you properly explained what you wanted then I suppose you claim the package was mis-sold, although Vodafone may class you as a business, rather than a private consumer. They're not known for being helpful.i thought getting the vodafone mobile WIFI would be a good idea as we're renting a place for the short term and didn't want to bother with phone line and contracts. 50Gb for £25 a month. thankfully i signed up for a rolling one month contract.
we were given absolutely no indication that we had exceeded the 50Gb limit and vodafone let us continue downloading away until we had racked up a £500 bill for the month.
a call to them got it reduced to £250. i asked them to just cap us at the 50Gb limit, but they wouldn't, yet somehow they managed to cap us at 67Gb and £500!
we decided to persevere with them and monitor our usage, but we've since gone over the limit again. i called and cancelled. pain in the butt
gone back to three today. the salesperson said they've had several ex vodafone customers signing up with them telling the same story of £500 monthly bills.
and yes, we haven't got an excuse really, our data usage went over the limit, but it seems a bit sharp. it must be counter productive for vodafone, why would i keep risking using such a potentially expensive service, or use vodafone for anything else in the near future.

I would have thought the only possible leg you have to stand on is whether your contract states 10Gb on it or not. It won't be in the generic detailed T&C's it will be on the main front.
If it doesn't then small claims court for mis-selling, but given you've seen the bill and I bet the tariff name on the bill states 10Gb on it, then you could only reasonably in my view claim the 1st month's £241 back. After that point you should know what the limit is.
