After a recent job change (previous job afforded me a company car) I have found myself tied into a lease deal for a B9 A4, whilst I has just about every option ticked it leaves me a little unfulfilled, and got me wondering about the benefits of second hand cars. I have had company cars for nearly 15 years.

After reading Alex Halls 100K garage I was struck by his words.

“People will tell me it will break down, but they're the people who would rather be driving a leased Golf to show off to their neighbours that they are posh, when really they are just hanging on for dear life”

So I have been looking at a C63 AMG, 911 997.2 Carrera S even an M6 the latter inspires my question.
Whilst looking at a used (2-3 years) M6 the advert stated over £100K new now £40K, I wonder then:

What is the best value car based on original selling price, which car has dropped the most in price percentage.

I have a budget of £40K, it needs to have 4 seats some boot or frunk space 25mpg+, the more exotic the better.

Thoughts on a post card, open my eyes to what’s on the market.

The 997.2 is the only thing that'll feel consistently special out of all that, IMO.

Maserati GranTurismo S is pretty special, in budget and four seats:

MPG might be a challenge though...

Audi S8 (or similar BMW/Merc) would hit the most depreciation box

A CL63 would also be worth a look on this metric and be a bit more special

All of the above have a huge way to fall still though

I'd consider a Nissan GTR or Lotus Evora at that price point (not sure if the latter is only 2 seats though...)

Now we are talking never even though about a Maserati or the GTR, I have seen the values of the CL drop off a cliff and they do look great value for money. Any other depreciation bargains ?

The Maserati Quattroporte is an absolute steal, second hand. All that Ferrari engineering for Ford prices.

If I could stomach the fuel bills (it's packing a Ferrari V8 mated to an automatic gearbox, after all), I'd seriously consider getting one myself.

As it is, the Quattroporte is still right at the top of my dream cars list.

Now look what you've made me do!

They start at a fiver under £10k - http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2017...

And go all the way up to two quid shy of £86k - http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2016...

Though I would suggest the sweet spot is around £30k. For example...

There are many others out there, but you know how to use Auto Trader. smile

In terms of depreciation, a VW Phaeton W12 would be pretty high on the list (can't see any for sale in the UK at the moment though).

...speaking of W12s, Bentley Continental GT. Plenty of those in budget:

Again, dependent on attitude towards MPG...

Lol can afford 40k on a car that's going to drop like a stone but minimum 25mpg is important.

I say go test drive the st out of loads of cars until you find one that you can't walk away from.

I know I know, I just find that I am pumping cash into a mediocre car, that really is not doing it for me.
My commute is only 12 miles and does not warrant a brand new car sitting at the park and ride all day.
However I could justify myself something older with less mpg but I always find myself going back to the 997.2 or the C63 AMG, I just need more opinions from everyone.
