Weird one, driving on the inside lane on one evening last week at 70 on cruise control and a car came flying up behind me to the point where i couldn't see his lights. He then backs off and then races up again.

He did this a few times, but i just kept on plodding along.. No the interesting part is eventually he came past, and in his front and rear windows were dash cams..

Felt a little like he was trying to bait me in to racing, flooring it or something else.. Has anyone else experienced this? I hope its not a new trend of wannabe you tubers..

You did the right thing by not rising to it.

A few years ago, a Skoda Octavia vRS came racing up behind me on the A1(M), to the point where I couldn't see his front numberplate in my rear view mirror.

Right, thinks I, I'm not having any of this... So I drop a couple of cogs and floor it. Cue Octavia getting smaller in my rear view.

At the next junction (where I was getting off the motorway), the same Skoda pulls up alongside me, and gestures for me to pull over. It was an unmarked police car.

Luckily, I only got a stern telling off (no ticket), but I've since learned to pull over and let racers past, just in case they are the Old Bill.

One of the many sad s that are out in the world.

Had it happen on a single lane A road, chap doing 20, went past and next thing I know he is glued to my bumper and can barely see his headlights.

Also had it happen on the local dual carriage way, same as you driving along minding our own business when dick head goes flying past and then dives in front and stands on the anchors.

Apparently there are a bunch of kids out and about that regularly try and bait other drivers and then kick off when they bite.

No wonder unmarked cars are becoming harder to spot!

I've had this happen once in the past - 11pm, deserted dual carriageway, 205 1.9 GTi. Thing is I'd driven right past the Police car as it pulled out of a layby, watched it approach in the mirrors, but they still drove up so close to the rear bumper that I couldn't see the lights, then dropped back and came up close again, repeat a few times, then got bored and did a U-turn around the end barrier of the dual carriageway and went off the other direction.

All that jazz

i had the same thing in my R32, car came flying up behind me than stopped an inch from my bumper (couldnt see plate or lights) and followed me for a couple of miles glued to my bumper

eventually they shot off and gave me the evils as they went past ... to fast to get any info from their uniforms

I am far more inclined to think "cool story bro" - police have absolutely no need to bait anyone into anything. Catching people breaking the law on the roads is like fish in a barrel.

This 100% happened to me the gits goaded me on the motorway in my 911 Turbo I floored it and they pulled up outside my office ten mins later having checked the reg and gave me patronising lecture.

I did go too quickly but I wouldn't have if they weren't driving like tts.

This was about 8 years ago so things may have changed.

I experienced similar on the M6 except I ignored them. They were tailgating, stuck the main beams on and generally driving like chav tts. I dropped my speed to 60mph the third time they backed off, hoping they'd get the hint that I wasn't interested in 'racing'. I noticed the police uniforms as the idiots overtook scowling at me hehe

I've got a device that shows me which cars are unmarked police and it's probably paid for its self back within the year, over the Christmas break I had an unmarked Fiesta ST try and goad me into racing which I didn't rise to as my device was going mad (it beeps based on proximity) so went round a roundabout twice then followed them for a bit with main beams on which probably confused them no end.
