Rail Network Definition : 'Folding Bike'?

Ring them and get a definitive answer in writing.
I bought a Dahon Matrix several years ago because my company said any folding bike. Then they started to make waves about them being dual fold rather than single, but made no mention of wheel size. I then started getting stopped at the gates to be warned that they were thinking about bringing in a new ruling. Had they done that, I would have been well pissed off as I'd just spent £800 on a new bike. As it happens, they never brought the ruling - might have been helped by a bunch of us complaining htat we'd bought out bikes because they complied with their rules.
In the end it didn't matter as my Dahon snapped and I bought a Brompton. You can't go wrong with that...

I know the big folders will ride better, but in my opinion its just not really practical on a packed commuter train.
I decided to buy a normal bike, but a bit of a beater and leave it locked up at a station in preference to buying a folder and carting it about. Has worked out well for me so far. Obviously only works if you are doing the same regular journey and only one cycling leg unless you want to stash bikes all over the shop. Occasionally I do need to take it on the train once in a while, to get it home for repairs etc. so have to plan to work within the train company's rules on those days.
