Rear brake discs and pads replacement advice please.
Discussion
Hello all. I wonder if you might be able to help/advise please?
I've had my 1998 reg 4.0 litre Chim for eight years come the end of this month and the rear brake discs need replacing as they are old and worn. The car has done just under 57,000 miles from new.
Could somebody please advise what the rear brake discs and pads were originally from when the cars were made? Manufacturer/model etc.? Are they still available to buy "off the shelf" from said manufacturer?
I'm quite happy to keep the brake set up "standard" as I have no intention of tracking or racing the car - apart from the occasional "spirited" blast on normal roads to blow out the cobwebs!!!!
Alternatively, if the advice is to upgrade the "original" equipment fitted to a better spec as a genuine improvement to "normal" road use (and for future "normal" road use) I'd be happy for that advice too.
Should I consider larger discs? Grooved discs? Drilled discs? Better grade pads?
I'm not sure going down the serious modification route is the way forward for me while I am the custodian of this particular TVR.
Any help/advice would be much appreciated.
Many thanks.
Scrubbie.

With your aims as stated, a set of standard ventilated disks will be fine.
Most of the bite is from the front disks, so upgrade those if you want to improve braking. I would upgrade to same size, grooved ventilated disks at the front, and possibly better pads too. I would leave the rears alone.
I upgraded my rears to same sized grooved disks with DS2500 pads, as I have big front brakes (324mm) and do track days. To be honest, I cannot really tell the difference, even on full braking at 140 mph.
I think they are Ford, possibly Sierra.

Standard brakes are Ford items.
If it is just the rears then a new set of discs and pads are easily sourced.
I suspect you'll have 253mm solid rear discs. They are off a Sierra. Just measure them.
EBC Ultimax 2 OEM pads work very well in my experience.
You should be able to buy both discs and pads from Eurocarparts.
Alternatively, TVR Parts sell the bits.
Flush and change the fluid too.

On a 1998 car I think they will be 273mm rear disks (mine are on a 1999 car), otherwise spot on Stewart. If it is just the rears then a new set of discs and pads are easily sourced.

I've just realised the old 'chimaera pages' has moved to the TVRCC.
