PH mods. Near mythical?

A newby just accidentally posted in the lounge and it was fairly swiftly moved by a mod to the relevant forum. I'm not after becoming a mod, but how does it come about? Do you ask PH towers to become one, or do they ask you?

I've heard that Haymarket pay .50p to mods for every thread moved to a sub forum where nobody will ever read it.

Mods are all kidnapped at the traffic lights.

You can tell when they don't get their fair share, they get tetchy and start deleting posts and moving threads.
