Driving back from the Tunnel meet, and decided to clean the screen. I was stationary with the temp bouncing around 90-100 for a couple of hours.

Pressed the button and clouds and clouds of smoke appeared from the bonnet.

Not sure why - either the water was boiling in the washer bottle because it sits between the water pipes, or I have a small leak in the pipe which sprayed water onto the exhaust manifold. Either way after my initial waves of panic subsided, it become great fun with lots of looks and pointing from the passers by .

Never thought I might need heat shielding round the washer bottle

Ahhh, that'll be the leaky hoses then.

I drove around for about a year or so with really cr@p windscreen washers thinking that it must just be a tvr thing. I put it in for servicing and they replaced all the rubber hoses from the bottle to the wipers as some had melted.
It's like Niagra Falls on my windscreen now!!!!

My hoses also melted, and were replaced.

I wonder if my water bottle could have melted re: my water leak and temperature going crazy problems. Is the water bottle itself (either for the rad or the washers) in a vulnerable position?

Its a few inches behind the radiator, butted up against the power steeing and water pipes. Its sort of up in the metalwork so should be OK.

Maybe Ill route the air con pipes round it to chill the water before it comes out .
