Looking to change my gearbox selector to the later style tvr selector and remove the Massey-ferguson style gear linkage, since mine seems to quite worn and doesn't have the feel that it should.

I can't remember the name of this LT77? I currently have a t5 box.

I seem to recall someone doing a guide on this. Also where would be the best place to locate the selector unit or complete gearbox with the unit would be even better. Any ideas?

If you have a T5 box, you'll need to swap the tail of the gearbox for an S10 tail which positions the shift lever in the correct place without the need for the linkage.

LT77 is a different model of gearbox fitted to earlier cars, identified by reverse being next to 1st rather than below 5th as on the T5

I have to say I'm super happy with how this one turned out.

While deleting the TVR linkage delivered improvements from day one the Hurst shifter kit definitely loosened up over time. I've been running the setup for exactly one year now so roughly 6,000 miles, as time has gone on the whole package of components has bedded in very nicely.

You do get used to these things so recently seeking some perspective on the differences I drove a friends Chimaera with standard TVR linkage arrangement, jumping from one car to another helped to give an immediate comparison.

Firstly the gear knob in my friends car felt very small, high, spindly and rather unconformable in the hand compared with my heavier larger diameter gear knob, shifting is definitely shorter and more direct with the new arrangement too.

Overall the removal of the TVR linkage has delivered better feel and gear selection which has definitely enhanced the driving experience.

Just did this. Spent some time measuring before we cut the shifter rod and drilled a hole. It needs to line up perfecly before you drill.



As you can see from the above pic, we have grind of some of the base of the shifter-ball-plate as it sticks out in the housing and touched the 5th gear pretty bad. This has to be checked before you put it together. In our case the housing wouldn't fit because of this.

Thats good news then thumbup who knows when I eventually get round to fitting mine I may take some pics of the 5th gear counter-shaft bearing support plate/mod fitting ..... my trouble is when I get stuck in I dont always want to stop and start arseing about with the camera/phone etc it as to be shimmed for a start and unless I am able to do the job in stages/over days unlikely TBH scratchchin

Thanks guys, major car rebuild has to happen this year so trying to improve on some the tvr engineering solutions in the process
