Still considering an S5 but struggling to understand the tech combinations....

There seems to be:

- Tech Pack (high)
- Techo Pack (low)
- MMI
- MMI plus
- HDD Nav

I'm sure it must be simpler than this once you know. I just need to know !

Thanks in advance for any guidance....

Up until 2013 there were two or three tech packs:

Tech pack, tech pack high (and possibly) tech pack advanced

Tech pack got you (amongst other things) mmi basic which didn't have full postcode search, was sd card based nav etc.

Tech pack high got you mmi 3G high with I think 7 digit postcode and HD based nav.

Then from 13 onwards tech pack got you the full 7 digit postcode HD nav system (the updated 3G plus) and tech pack advanced also added wifi/3G connectivity via SIM card and some google earth features

Thanks Stephen

Am still confused though ! There are two 14 plate cars on AT at the moment at Audi dealers. One says Nav is MMI plus and the other says HDD Nav.

I guess what I really need is a definitive list of all the possible options / combinations for Nav / media for, say, a 14 plate car. And which is best !

Thanks

13 plate onwards there was only one nav option and that was mmi 3G plus which was a hdd nav. The tech pack advanced I believe used same hardware but with extra software features enabled (google earth, Audi connect etc)

There are fundamentally two navigation options only, both have had updates over the years.

DVD navigation - basic disc based system (aka MMI navigation). Flat MMI wheel on centre console. MMI navigation depending on age and model has also come on an SD card rather than a DVD.

HDD navigation - more advanced and fully featured hard drive based system (aka MMI navigation plus). Little joystick in the centre of MMI wheel. On facelift (12-15) cars this one does proper postcode searching. This is most people's preference and a good setup.

To have the better navigation you are looking for this little joystick on the MMI control wheel:

You'll see a lot of talk about 2G, 3G, 3g+ etc but these are (basically) just referring to different versions of the above.

If you send me a message through my profile I will reply with a 2014 S5 brochure so you can read in detail about what 'packs' were available.
