i have a 2005 987 with PCM2 sat nav and bose system upgrade. Now as the sat nav seems to pre date the 1800's i am looking to upgrade to a new complete unit, with sat nav, dab radio, usb, phone etc.... have been looking at pioneer and alpine units as that seems to be most people recommendations but i have only been able to find quotes of around £1600 for full installation ! does this seem a reasonable price or is there another route i can go down. any recommendations of fitters/installers that i should try ?

See my post and the others here:

Try Car Audio Security and Auto Audio for quotes. Perhaps others can recommend some too.

The full install prices are a complete rip-off in my opinion.

I actually installed a Pioneer myself a couple of years ago. I found it relatively simple, and the modern head unit actually looks slightly better in my opinion. It is also easy to reverse if I ever decide to sell.

As cmoose says, it is the box to interface a modern unit to the Bose system that adds to the cost, it looks like it is £190 now.

Complete cost was just over £500 for me (£180 for the Bose interface, £320 for the unit, £20 for the bezel). This compared to about £1k fitted which I thought was excessive.

thanks for that. just been looking at the Dynavin unit and the one for my vehicle is £799 ! plus £130 for DAB and then fitting, although they say fitting is a doddle so I'm hoping even i could take a shot at it !
still expensive but seem a much easier option with far less hassle and extra components. this way i can keep existing amp and still get full use of steering wheel controls. also seems to blend better into dash, albeit a smaller screen.

thanks The Animal and Kingston just spoke with the guys at car audio security in Hayes. Gave me a good quote and your right things made a whole lot easier with this new loom wiring. Still looking at £1200 all in with the Kenwood unit but price is getting lower thankfully with the more info i get.

Cool! If you can / have time to fit yourself then you can save money. Otherwise the two suppliers I mentioned I can vouch for. Hope you get it sorted soon smile
