When this came up a few days ago the quote was they would remove (s)cameras that didn't reduce accidents.
All politcians are ecomomic with the truth, and I don't believe any of them.

What thhey are saying is that cameras will not be placed in an area that is not an accident black spot. They also say they will review all cameras that are currently in place. They do not say that they will change the current rules so the criteria used to place the current cameras will be used to justify them again. Removing the camera partnerships will simply put the funds straight into the correct pocket.

The only thing that politics has tought me is that a government will never give up a source of funding. The cameras are easy money. They are here to stay.

The Tories still do not have the courage to put forward a decisive approach to Motoring issues.

They may raise the Motorway speed limit to 80MPH

They may reduce the numbers of Speed humps/cameras

What they need to do is give definite promises-Nail their colours to the mast and show motorists they are on their side.

I fear you may be right...but if we can restore some balance to road enforcement, and remove even some of the blatent tax machines, it'll be a major boon compared to the current regime!

Sounds extreme, but when governments don't listen, and when people really care, they boycot or protest and get the things changed. If they don't work, riots usually do.

A proper boycot would be, for example, doing the old 30mph on motorways like during the fuel protests. Just three cars on a motorway, take up all three lanes at 30-40mph, and gridlock would ensue.
If the skip driver who is now being skape goated again got all his mates in on it, get truck drivers in on the cause, then you could be quite effective.

If only one in ten did this, it's make the whole UK come to a grinding halt on A roads and the like.

I'm in no way saying partake in illegal activities, but hey, we all apparently are criminals as soon as we start our cars and drive down the road anyway

I'd be up for driving slow in rush hour. Save fuel, be late to work and have a good excuse, have a good laugh at the news and how irresponsible we are for driving slowly and causing emergency vehicles to not be able to safely get places fast (yeah, contradiction, we drive slow, they'd complain!)...

Would be good impact. Just prove the point, when the country goes slow, accidents still happen, people still die, still congestion on roads, and more road rage than ever. And thats doing what they want us to do, go slowly!

All three parties would do the same, say they'd remove them, then just NOT.

Anyone remember Bliar and his Education education education, and health service health service crap. Both worse than ever!

You have a choice.

Vote for a government that will reduce the nanny state control freakey...

or vote for a government that has proven itself since 1997 to do done nothing but add over 1000 new laws to the nanny state control freakery, NHS efficiency reduction, massive public sector burden, creeping taxation increases, help for the least deserving (need I say more?) and so on.

Don't be fooled by low inflation, this country's economy is in a bad state and it is certain Labour will make things worse for us if they get back in again.

Never happen. Even when we do protest, the government ignore us (fuel protests).

If you protest against speed cameras the government will brand you antisocial and some sort of deviant. Remember the fuel protesters, they were stopping funds from reaching the critically ill in the underfunded NHS.
If you do not pay your speeding fine you will go to prison and you will never get credit again. You want to use your car? you first have to place your nut$ in a vice that the chancellor can squeeze as much as he likes.
Wait till october when the fuel escalator comes back.

Bah, who cares.

The government could twist the propoganda to make anyone with even the best intentions look evil in the eyes of "joe public"...

You've got to stand for what you believe in no matter what.

Well, they keep telling us our grandparents died defending our right to freedom, so why are we not exercising it...
I think a meltdown is coming. This kind of ignorance to proper social values won't continue forever. Eventually people will want to go against the grain, and when it does happen it'll be big.
People right now are letting it happen, but all of a sudden it'll turn. Just hope it doesn't get too bad before it gets better!

I know i will be voting Tory. cant see any reason for voting labour.
once again the tories will have to pick up labours mess. which makes them look bad, as it went wrong in their term in office. then labour will get back in, and ride on the tories good work

I hope this is correct but you never know. One thing is for sure though there will be a lot of people in positions of power in the speed camera partnerships who will be really kicking out the propergander against the tories proposals. Brake will wheel out the parents of the kids killed to say we need these people to protect the kiddies etc ad nauseum.
What ever they do it cannot be no worse than what labour have done to us.

I agree, I think those whose nice litle earner is threatened by the reduction in speed camera numbers will start behaving like cornered rats.

The whole Tory policy seems to be about handing power and choice back to the people who deserve it - us.

Labour have done nothing but invent ways to measure anythin and everything, then spend huge amounts of money doing it. Ask anyone who works in the public sector - police, nurses, teachers etc, - or the self employed; beaurocracy under Labour has flourished, middle management pencil pushers have never had it so good, and most people at the "coal face" have less an less time to do their jobs and more time sitting at a desk.

Political correctness and the compensation culture are twin cancers which have been growing unchecked, and "New" Labour don't see or acknowledge the problems let alone have a cure for them.

Since Blair came to power he has smarmily lied his way from issue to issue, saying one thing while brazenly doing exactly the opposite. The whoile concept of Stealth Taxes sums them up ... the weasels have the decency to just raise taxes and admit they're doing it, they continue to invent new ways to tax us behind our backs while claiming to cut direct taxation.

Even now, anything that goes awry gets blamed on the "Legacy of the Conservative party", while anything that goes right is obviously down to them and them alone.

Still, they have done a good job on the economy eh? Really? I don't believe it. I suspect a healthy global economy may have has more to do with that.

And don't get me started on immigration; along with IR35 this government have relentlessly beat the IT contractor with a sh**ty stick, which is a personal grudge of mine.

Back on topic though, I feel that the ethos of the conservatives is to reduce the repression of the public in general, and a let up in the persecution of motorists seems to tie in with that general philosophy. At the very least they are making some encouraging noises - 80mph and reducing camera abuse.

Vote Tory - anything else is simply a waste of a vote.

With a moniker like mine you would hardly expect me to take any other stance, now would you?
