Advice on budget bike lights

Just wanting a bit of advice if anyone can help. I am not a serious cyclist, but want to do a bit more than I am currently doing. As the evenings are dark I want to invest in a set of reasonable lights rather than the very cheap ones that I currently have for emergency use (I don't currently cycle in the dark and have them purely for if I get caught out at dusk)

Riding will be done on lit roads using cycle lanes (north Leeds) and my helmet has a light fixed to the rear for added visibility. I am only going to be doing 45-60 minute rides if that helps.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Go to a bike shop and buy the brightest lights they have for your budget. For buying online you could go for a cheap Cree LED light for the front and LifeLine Essential 8 for the rear, both of which I use without issues. Whichever option you go for, be aware that the flash setting could aggravate other road users if it is very bright. Also have a look at some reflective/high vis stuff.

Thanks for the help. I will be wearing in conjunction with hi-vis/reflective of course. Already have some running gear that will do the job for the sort of riding that I will be doing

I have the Fluxient U2 Mini from the eBay store mentioned above. I got the set which includes 2 batteries (~£50) and over the last year it's been completely reliable on my commute. The only reason I would consider changing is that the beam pattern is a bit "dazzling" for other road users but this applies to any brand (apart from the German dynamo type ones with squared off beams)

I just bought a couple of Lezyne 300XL lights from Planet X for £14.99 each.
For some reason the silver ones were cheaper than the black ones.
They’re good, but you need to be very careful that the rubber bung doesn’t come off the end – happened to me on my first ride.
Light lasts about 45-minutes to an hour on the very brightest setting but there are about 7 or 8 to choose from.
While I was there, I also picked up a rear light from Planet X too. This is to go alongside my other one as a back up. It’s battery powered rather than rechargeable, which is a bit of a pain, but for something like £4.99 I wasn’t bothered.
Not sure if they’ll all still be on there now as I got them before Christmas, but Planet X is definitely worth keeping an eye on as they have good sales.

I run it alongside the solus USB one (also a Nite Rider product and very bright and USB rechargeable) which is also great except I only paid £9.99 for mine when it came up on promo.
