Spotted this listing by chance this morning:

What a horrible looking thing, garish or what?

The bit that intrigued me was the "made in Italy", by who and how could a country with such a heritage of beautiful automotive styling have had anything to do with this?

It was designed by Virgil Exner, which explains a lot. Presumably they contracted a firm of Italian coachbuilders to construct the things because it was cheaper there, or American companies were not experienced enough/refused to have anything to do with it.

I would imagine the target market was medallion man in California, so shipping costs would have been high.
