Im looking to buy a streaming device, everything Ive looked at has either a DAC or amplifier on board (or both) and Ive got that sorted - just looking for the steamer bit.

Can anyone recommend a device?

It must be capable of playing direct off an external HDD (FLAC and HD audio) and have an Android app for control etc.

Thanks all

We're about to add one to our range, it's £69.99 and appears to play from a home music share so I think you'd need a computer in between the HDD and this, or you'll need a media HDD with built in home share, pretty sure this is the same for all streaming devices though..

It works from android. I've tested it and it's great, multi-room etc, seems reliable but I need to test it further before I list it.

I'll do some digging into home share for you.

I assume you've looked at the Sonos Connect / Denon Heos Link?

I think there's some confusion about what it is you actually need?

You want to be able to play files from a USB external drive and control via Android? If you have no DAC the only way to output a source to an amp is with optical, most streaming devices will have RCA outputs and one or more digital.

There are plenty of network streaming players on the market, which is what I guess you've seen, but not all of them have speaker outputs. They are designed to support high-res audio, but also have Wifi, Bluetooth and other source inputs which you probably don't need, so may be overkill for the purpose.

I can't think of the name of any of them, but there are some small devices that allow you to turn your Hifi system into multiroom, the same as Sonos Connect etc. just not so needlessly expensive if you don't use Sonos speakers), I don't know if there are any with USB input to play from an HDD.

Sorry but just to clarify 9as per the original post) - I have a DAC and amplifier already = just want the streamer capability. I do have a small Revo PC but I don't want to have to boot up / navigate through a windows PC to play music. Something like the Aurilies may do - it does look expensive for what it is tho - guess its decent quality?

I use a small PC (Intel NUC) with Linux and MPD, which is on permanently (it consumes about 10w or something).

There are a few Android apps to control this.

As you already have a PC...
