What happened to Ebay auctions?
Discussion
I've been a seller on eBay for 3 years or so. I'd guess about 18 months a go I switched to almost purely Buy It Now listings as the auction side wasn't getting me results.
I assumed the benefit of having it secured and in the post out weighed the chance you may secure it at a lower price.
I haven't gone back to auctions but I think this might have balanced out a bit again now, perhaps because of the reduced volume of auctions.

Mostly business sellers on there now, selling new rather than used stuff. Private sellers are moving to gumtree, Facebook, forums etc.
I'd never sell anything on there now as the buyers protection is ridiculous. Far too easy to be scammed and left out of pocket by buyers claiming stuff hasn't arrived or isn't as described.
That's before you mention the high sellers fees and PayPal taking their cut! I'm happier selling my stuff for slight less money by other means to avoid aggro.
I still buy stuff from there but never sell.

I've got about 250 feedback for buying stuff, but have sold only 3 items ever. First two went great, some vintage car gauges, but the third, a complete Mini dashboard unit, the cowbag who bought it didnt pay for p&p and just plead ignorance when I pointed out the very clear details about it. Eventually I just posted it at my own expense to save the cow possibly ruining my 100% good feedback.I'd never sell anything on there now as the buyers protection is ridiculous. I use ebay a lot, can't say I've noticed if it's classified or not, it's not made buying things any different/harder anyway. I tend to buy it now anyway.
I wouldn't sell anything though, the seller is really screwed if the buyer is an ass.
Google says:
Classified ads are a great way to list items, services, or properties for sale without creating an auction-style or fixed price listing. You can create a classified ad on eBay.com or on eBay Classifieds (formerly Kijiji.com).

All the above or for disposing of heavy, bulky items that are skip bound. Start at 99p,local collection only. The cheapskate scaggy f*ckers take the s

DId this with three massive piles of broken up old rotten fence panels with nails sticking out that I didnt want to put in the back of the car.

There's no way I can be arsed to buy from auctions. If I need something then I want it now. I don't want to wait 2-3 days and end up getting sniped. That's a monumental waste of time. If something is auctioned then I'll ignore it.
As for selling, I've sold a lot of stuff, some of it a few hundred quid, and never had a problem. Wait around for a fees offer and it's great. My last was £1 final fees.

I use ebay a fair bit and have got some absolutely fantastic bargains by sniping auctions
My favourites though are best offers, most people will usually take off a few quid depending on the value.
Have been done twice by sellers being scummy f
kers. Buyer protection has saved me both times! Even after one of the buggers cancelled the refund e-cheque!

A few years ago I was selling around 100 items a month on eBay and I only listed items as buy it now. The reason for this is the item would either sell for what I wanted or else it wouldn't sell at all. For me the minimum I would sell anything for would be 10 pounds as I could not be bothered going to the post office for less than that.
It also helps when selling expensive items as it means you don't end up giving the item away.
The only items I have sold in an auction are cars and this is usually because I need the car gone and in most cases I have had offers to end the auction early which I have taken.

A new(ish) thing that's pretty good too is shpock, no fees which makes it better than ebay, and no 'can you deliver it' & 'I'll offer you half of what you want' for the facebook selling pages.
You can and are expected to haggle a bit of course.

I find this cross shipping from Amazon is getting a bit silly. Not sure how they are doing that I assume seller has some way of getting item at a discount from amazon, then lists it on ebay at 10% more and then sends direct from Amazon.
Some of these I have noticed have 10,000+ feedbacks so must be big money in it.

I must confess I used to get unreasonably excited waiting until the final seconds to put my max bid in, to outwit the 10-pence-at-a-time bidding idiots.I have no idea why some sales get 50 bids in the first few days, then you'll sometimes see the same idiots bidding a quid at a time, back and forth......
When I get a proper PC to work at I will check out some more of the other sales sites mentioned. Viewing the web via a Samsung Note, on Data connection, is a ball ache!

I had 2 sellers drop ship from Amazon last year. Both got negative feedback.I find this cross shipping from Amazon is getting a bit silly. Ebay clearly state it is against there rules, but Ebay make so much money from them with fees etc..., that there is no point reporting the seller, as no action would be taken.
