Skoda Superb Hot Start Issue
Discussion
I'm currently driving a 2008 Skoda Superb with the 1.9 TDI engine and, over the past few weeks, have been experiencing an issue when starting the engine after it has been running for a while. There are no issues when starting from cold - the engine turns over immediately. However, when warm it will take 2 or 3 seconds to start.
I've done a bit of research online but can't find anything conclusive. Some people have said it is a battery or starter motor issue, whereas others have said it is to do with a piece of software code that regulates how much fuel is injected when the engine is warm.
Before I go down the route of changing the battery (which is a couple of years old) and starter motor I just wanted to check whether anybody here has experienced a similar issue and, if so, what they did to fix it.
Thanks in advance.

It's a combination of both mechanical and software.
Car gets older, older battery, older starter motor, older wiring etc.
I can't remember exactly but if you look at the injection map of most 1.9 cars they inject no fuel at all until 270rpm or something.
But when you are cranking the starter motor cannot turn the engine at 270rpm, it turns maybe 235-240rpm, so no fuel is injected.
Eventually there is some part of another map which adds fuel as a sort of "oh, I should be running now" and the engine splutters into life.
Most places charge around £50 for this, where are you based?

Oh, yeah that may not work
I suggest you find a local tuning specialist who have experience of these engines and who can apply the hot start fix.
Maybe get the vehicle remapped at the same time, but you can just do the hot start map, just has request to inject fuel from 125rpm or similar rather than the 270

There is a Skoda specialist that I go to for servicing so will drop it in to them and see what they say.
