Unsolicited tab openng on firefox

So is it possible to open a unrequested tab in firefox (the browser)? Have just had this apparently happen on here to Geralton TVR??? (cant remember the exact name)
One of the reasons of using firefox was to avoid unsolicited advertising please tll me they aren't already going to be spamming us again via yet another sneaky method.
When will businesses realise that targetted advertising is fine, but please take into account all knowlage you have on me, trying to sell me a new TVR in the UK is pointless, I don't even live there. This is basic segmentation and only serves to annoy people.

Tools > Options > Web Features. Check 'Block popups' is still ticked and that something hasn't got into the allowed sites list.

What? are you telling me firefox has just as many holes as ie and that its just that people dont spend as much time finding them because there are fewer users? shocking news! (maybe)
