Hi folks,
The drivers seat on my 944 doesnt go back as far as the passenger seat. It's as if someone has had the seat bolted a bit too far forward. As a consequence my legs are a bit too far forward for my liking. I don't seem to remember my last 944 seat being so close to the dash when fully pushed to the rear.

My seats have the electric jobbys on the right hand side, and the forwards and backwards lever etc at the front of the seat.

I am not that tall, about 6 1, they just seem a bit different to what I remember.

Please feel free to tell me I am raving mad, but if anyone has any ideas or has known of this happening please let me know.

Thanks.
Mike.

Hi Mike,
I've got a 944 turbo, am 6' 5", and can actually get quite comfy in it! The secret is not to fanny around with the seats, it's actually to get a smaller steering wheel, in my case a 280mm MOMO model, which comes with a optional steering boss.

If the seat is already at maximum, then this is the only option, as it was for me.

Cheers

Garrett

If IRC there are actually 2 positions to bolt the seat down. The car may have had the seat bolted in the forward position for a short arse. Leaving you in need of a bit more room Certainly worth a look, is definately the case on the 911s. Hope that helps. How u getting on with our photographic project? :heheh:

Thanks folks,
I hope this may be the case nonegreen, I will get it on the ramps and have a look. It certainly would make sense.
How is it getting on? Nearly there, I will see if I can post a pic.....

Mike -you shouldn't need to put it on the ramps!!

Just take the seats out and move the rails onto the rear most mounting. You may need a Torx socket rather than an Allan key

No, put the bucket in the wrong place, took the sump plug out, went to move the bucket, slipped, oil everywhere.

And yes, I must be related to Norman wisdom.

To stray back in the direction of the original question for a moment..

When I first got my 944 the drivers seat wouldn't go all the way back but a bit of straining and some WD40 eventually freed it up. I suspect that (leaving aside potential alternative mounting holes) lack of use just meant that extreme back (or forwards it transpired) positions were a bit seized.

Now in when fully back it is only about two inches from the comedy rear seat. And I always slide it right back when getting out to try and preserve the little remaining fabric on the sides of my sports seats (leather re-trim time soon I fear).
Guy.

Maybe I should try some brute force. I did notice that the passenger side seat itself does go past the seat runners when pushed fully back, but the drivers seat doesn't... I will try that before dismantling. Thanks.

Check the clearance on the rear bolts in case non-standard ones used and they are proud.

Also, the release linkage, a particularly poor piece of design, IMNVHO, can foul up.

Melv, I will be having a go at this tomorrow, how easy is it to whip the seat out....If you could give me a hint it would be appreciated.

They are the electric leather sort if that makes any sort of a difference.

Well, turns out it was a bit simpler than I thought....

I removed the four torx bolts, slid the seat forward, then back, funnily enough it went a lot further back than it previously had.

There must be something up there....And yes, there was...a 100lira coin shoved right in the runners, which had obviously been fouling the first torx bolt it came across.

I now have fully reaching seats. I blame the italians entirely.

Thanks for the help folks.
