What porsche do not supply ruf with body shells
Discussion
True or false Porsche say they do not supply shells directly to ruf and never have done ,just a myth says Porsche.
Porsche say they regard ruf the same as any other tuner, not very highly, and they will now not be able to advertise in the Porsche club mag along with any other tuner who advertises parts/conversions of any car that’s with in its warranty period of 2 years.
Over to the ruf experts then!

False statement/Porsche are lying. Adamt did a report on the build of their red R Turbo and you see the bare shell prior to spraying. Can anyone provide a link? Porsche also supply complete engines, drive trains etc to Ruf.
Incidently I have a higher regard for the build quality of Ruf built cars than I do those built by porsche. Ruf built 996s don't seem to rattle as badly as porsche bult ones..... (basis of comparison, my car verses adams R turbo which had done more track days and had higher mileage)

I guess only Ruf know the real answer.
All I know is that the Rufs I've seen built start with a complete bare shell, have no Porsche chassis number and are badged as Ruf's with Ruf manufacturer designation.
I know that Ruf are not linked to the factory officially in any way (like AMG/Alpina etc).
BTW, where did this 'Porsche statement' come from?

Yeah I was answering the origonal question in a way that makes sense in my head
i.e they have to get them from somewhere.
The only place they can get them from without numbers would be from Porsche would it not? otherwise they would have numbers on.
time for bed as the beer and sleeping tablets are kicking in at last and im sure im talking drivel
It came from Porsche ,apparently the Porsche family frown upon all tuners including ruf! informed by Porsche that they get there shells via ,freisinger and some French Porsche dealers ,and any where else that they can get a shell from.
I do know freisinger buys shells from the factory ,normally motorsort shells which come with a production number and no chassis number.
I have a ex roock shell ,that roock purchased 6 shells ,all with prod numbers and no chassis number. But now has a roock chassis number. These were bought direct from Porsche motorsport!
Porsche are not saying any thing about the build quality etc of ruf or others, just that there parts and conversions will render your Porsche warranty use less if its with in the term of your warranty of 2 years.
This was said at the Porsche club workers conference and agm this week end past. I was surprised to hear this from Porsche.
Common sense says a "collaboration" must exist between Porsche and those tuners able to offer their own VIN number[whether or not they choose to broadcast this ]. This based on the fact that a car does not consist of only a shell ! If you purchased a bare shell and then each of the following components individually the cost would be astronomic :-
Wiring harness-Fibre optics on new cars
Engine management
ABS system-Bosch licensed to Porsche
Lights
Steering gear
Suspension
Trim
Instruments
etc etc
There would not be any economies of scale if each car was bespoke manufactured in it's entirity, This is on my opinion of course

I bet you are right.
The warranty issue won't worry Ruf owners as Ruf provide their own warranty.
Doesn't surprise me. Porsche have never offically recognised any tuners or manufacturers like Ruf. They would rather keep 100% of the cake than share it, thats perfect business sense.
Everyone knows any modifications invalidate the warranty, so thats's not exactly news. Ruf offer their own warranty for both converted cars and their own new Ruf cars, so it's no relevence anyway.
However, I believe that some of Rufs achievements have helped the image of Porsche and the 911, when Porsche was not willing or able to produce cars of the same nature.
Several members of the Porsche family own Rufs, or have had Ruf modify their Porsches, so don't always believe the 'official party line'.
Since Ruf only produce about 35 bespoke cars per year, they are hardly a threat to the global giant that is Porsche.

Our r turbo shell came with a Porsche "WP" vin, this was then taken off, and a WO(RUF Vin) was put on.
The porsche family love ruf, i have met Mark Porsche(one of the grandsons) and he was there to check on his R turbo conversion.
I think that perhaps its more of a problem with the accountant/bureaucrat Wideking(sp?).
But ruf def. get their shells from porsche,
all the best

if Porsche supply shells to Freisinger why not Ruf , in my opinion Ruf do more for the Porsche name than any of the other tuners .
I dont belive Ruf could be so sucessful with out some form of cooperation from Stutgartt
