What would you buy for 2k?
Discussion
If I get an internship next year, I'm going to be looking at something more suited to motorway driving.
I think 2k is a realistic amount to spend, or say, budget for. A 1k car with 1k of servicing, for example, or a 2k car outright.
I'm a fan of a few cars, and some might make people wince, but Alfa 156/159, Rover 75/ZT, Saab (of some description), potentially a large Citroen (although I think a C6 is out of range).
OR
A lease deal. But I've looked at lease deals and unless I get a preferential price working with a car manufacturer, there is little choice for large cars at 2k.
I have a ZR, MG F and a 205 GTi currently, and get 40-50mpg on a run in the ZR.
I want to stick with a petrol and if I budget properly, a V6 / straight 6. I don't want anything German.
Rubbish suggestions welcome too,
Taz

Lexus is200 for me. V6 engine, comfort, reliability. Get one for about 1200 the rest can be for repairs. Say 300 for cam belt the rest emergency.
I'm a big Lexus fan tho.
My perfect to punch combo would be a Lexus and a Subaru, chuck in a diesel Audi a4 Avant for long distance hauling.

If you like the MG ZR but want six cylinders, why not a ZS180?
Just watch the cost of belt replacements on anything with the Rover 6 cylinder petrol engine (Land Rover, MG, Rover etc). They are bloody expensive and also include the timing belt and the two belts driving balancer shafts on the rear of the engine. It can cost the value of the car - around £700. Great engine though, and the ZS180 is a really good steer.s3 akr said:

Well, do I like the ZR? I've made it mine I guess, MG3SW armrest from China, double din facia from China. I want cruise control but being a cable operated throttle the kit is £150 + to fit. I suspect the same issue exists with the ZS, and I don't believe any of these cars came with cruise control so I couldn't even steal it from another Rover. The ZS hasn't really been on the radar as I can get a ZT with the same engine. I do fancy a KV6, and my experience with the K series is pretty good, but I don't think it's first anymore on the list. Maybe I need to drive a ZS?
