Gear box & Axle top ups

Hi

Should my MAN Truck require G/Box and Axle oil top ups at its 6weekly inspections if it does not have a leaks ?

Does the oil Evaporate ? or get used up in normal use ?

The garage want to charge me

Any Ideas ?

Only way you're going to know for sure is to check the levels yourself.

six weekly inspections are a safety thing, and while you could argue that a seized gearbox could cause an accident i think that's a bit tenuous?


Providing there are no leaks (which would be clearly visible, and a safety issue) oil "consumption" should be negligible. There were no six week inspections back when I was in the workshop, checking at service intervals was considered quite sufficient.
