G'day Folks.

I'm wondering if the PH folks can help em in my search. I'm looking or a camera that is helmet mounted, but has a remote shutter (Preferably wireless) I'm only wanting it for stills, not interested in video (Don't have the time / nor ill to edit hours of film!)

It's for canoeing, I do a lot of white water canoeing (2 man open canoe) and want to be able to take nice pics of the interesting bits - plan would be camera permanantly installed on helmet, shutter attached to boat nearby so I can hit it when things get interesting

I know go-pro is probably the answer, but is there something out there which is more photo orientated rather than video? Needs to be lightweight and waterproof -not asking much am I!

A Go Pro Session would be my suggestion, the newer version have voice control. Although for your sort of usage I would set it on timelapse taking a picture every x seconds, then just choose the best ones.

Aye - it's looking like that or the Ion Air Pro. Doesn't seem to be a specific photo only camera out there.

GoPro 5. It shoots RAW so that's your best bet, with a remote control. Voice control is useless, I gave up on even trying anymore.

Otherwise Garmin VIRB also takes very good photos (JPGs are on a level with GoPro - I have both), plus there is a designated shutter button so you know you are taking photo without remote, also remote is tiny and uses ANT+ connectivity so the battery lasts months and doesn't drain the camera's battery as much as Wifi or Bluetooth connection.

Don't know if it's any use, but the Sony Action cams can be controlled with a phone. I had a waterproof Z3 phone, so would have been fine in a canoe, but I don't know if you would want to risk it with others. GoPro is probably the answer though.

Drift Ghost S - has a two way waterproof remote with colour coding.

It depends on how you mount it.

My MTB helmet has a GoPro mount, which will snap off in an impact.

Thanks all.

Problem solved - was discussing with a friend - who admitted to having a never used go-pro which he has kindlt lent me on a long term loan. I'll have a play with it and either buying it off him, or giving it back when i realsie it's not for me.

Cheers!
