I was very late to the party when it came to the Golf-R; had been quite happy with my A5 until a pick-up/tree interface ruined my serenity!

So back in September I decided to go for a Golf-R on the company scheme, it arrived on the last Friday of November - just in time for the weekend!

and now its run in - we see the R in its natural habitat:

Yep, keeps it all reasonably unassuming.

Very nice, really like the grey. Did you go for DSG or stick? How does it compare to the A5?

It's a DSG smile

The A5 was a 2.0TDI, so no fair comparisons really.

TBH, for the long drive the A5 was nicer, for the spirited parts the Golf wins hands down. (Although I did find myself wondering if the RC300h would have been a better compromise between the two)

Can't fault the Golf - did over 8 hours in there yesterday and no aches or pains, despite being over 6ft.

I can't see how anyone could not rate that amazing blue they come in as the best. Appreciate it's perhaps over-used, but that doesn't stop it from being an incredible hue.

Not knocking your grey though - i had a grey Mk6 R.

Looks great, love the colour.

I've recently taken delivery of a GTD Estate which seems to be a great car, an R must be even better. (I went for Tornado Red though!)

It has to be said, that road is one of the reasons I prefer to drive rather than fly/train to Edinburgh biggrin

Great car! But then I have a certain amount of bias.
Was a toss up between Limestone and Reflex... what options did you go for?

Quick update, just under 8000miles on the clock now.
Averaging 34mpg overall, 47mpg on long runs.....12mpg when driven appropriately! wink
Exhaust sounds much better now its had a few heat cycles and got some carbon in there.
Not missed a beat on long or short trips, even when abused.
Lives in Eco mode a lot of the time, keeps it feeling more special when using the sport/individual modes.

Had another Somerset/Edinburgh/Somerset run for work a few weeks back - much nicer weather this time smile

Wow you do a lot better than me, long term 26mpg though I have a heavy right foot and hardly ever use eco. I do use launch control where possible though smile

Great choice, I currently have a 15 reg which is due back to the leasing company. I've already extended the lease by 6 months, so I think I am going to order another one

When the mileage rate at work is pretty draconian you have to use it to come close to breakeven! :O

Crazy MPG figures - no wonder it hasn't missed a beat!

Averaging 24mpg on my Scirocco R (which has the mark 6 engine, admittedly - but still) across 9,000 miles.
