Lean Six Sigma - Training providers?

Hi All,

I've been given the opportunity to do a six sigma green belt course and project, I will be the first person in my current organisation to do this course so there is no approved provider.

I previously worked for JLR in manufacturing and have used lean methodologies in the past so I have background knowledge but never formalised it with a qualification.

Can anyone recommend a training provider they've used in the past? There seem to be lots online and prices vary from £2.5k with QA to almost £5k with BSI!

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Probably not helpful to you but I did mine with my employer in house as it seems like anybody can certify you to be a "green belt", there is no official course / qualification. It was mandatory that we all got a green belt when they took us over.

Biggest waste of a week of my life ever + vast sums of company money wasted doing our "project" after (the course alone was not sufficient, you have to demonstrate application of the principles).

Yellow Belt doesn't really teach you anything.

I tried to get onto Green Belt as it was a lot more educational, so it was more money, so it wasn't paid for...

We (well the managers) did it through Smallpeice Enterprises.

Thanks, how did you rate the course? It seems quite long at 9 days compared to others which are normally 5 but looks like it covers other subjects such as leading improvement project teams over and above the DMAIC stuff.

Although we did our training for just four days before attempting to do a project. It didn't end successfully for us or the company.

I appreciate people telling me it's a waste of time, but the company wants to do it and I've found the framework and tools useful in the past so regardless, it's going to happen.

Any more provider suggestions?

Can't offer you comparisons, but I did a course (company funded) with BSI. The course seemed thorough and is heavily reliant on work and projects completed outside of the classroom - so a chance to put the principles into practice. There are a few additional costs as well - the biggest one being the software needed. If there is a huge difference in cost I would be tempted to look at BSI and one of the companies in the mid price range to gauge the difference and whether the additional cost gives you any more. I found it an awful lot to take in, but if you have an aptitude for statistics you'll coast it.

We used http://www.sbtieurope.com/ for training in the UK. Just picked up my Greenbelt certificate after a few years gap between doing the yellow-belt. We have a dedicated department which just looks at CI and it was all tailored and arranged with a good trainer and one of our guys. It wasn't just turning up to a training centre, they booked a local hotel and spent a lot of pre-training time looking through the project proposals and giving guidance before turning up. The trainer also participated in a few project review sessions after the course where all the participants gave status updates and we were given good guidance. Might be worth investigating?
