I've always been quite sceptical about these PPI claims fro myself as I've never signed up for PPI on mortgages, loans etc but after a friend had a PPI check and it showed that PPI was added to a loan without his knowledge I decided to check it out. Lo and behold I have a mortgage from 1992 and a loan from 1999 that had PPI automatically applied so I've been paying for insurance I never needed and couldn't have claimed on because I didn't know I had it. It may have been in the small print somewhere but who reads that?

The company I used works by personal word of mouth (or forum) recommendation so email me if you're interested in using them too and I'll be happy to pass your name on. They take the usual 25% of any compensation awarded.

I'm trying to emphasise that you may not even know you have paid for PPI so apologies if this looks like a business touting post, I have no connection with the company apart from being a satisfied customer.

Haha yeah.

I thought long and hard how to avoid making the post sound like a cold-call PPI script....

and then I utterly failed

I'm exactly the same as you and therefore have never checked if I have been Miss sold PPI. Do you have to provide details of every mortgage you ever had? If so I doubt I could having had various BTL and residential mortgages over 20 years.

You have to supply the names of the Banks / Building Societies / Credit Card suppliers that you have used, and your past addresses. One of the mortgage companies I used (Portman in 1987) required an account number, so we couldn't take that any further as I didn't have the details from 30 years ago!

Usually the bank/BS can work out your details and whether you had PPI from your name and previous addresses.

You've been had twice - paying someone a 25% fee for something you could have easily sorted out yourself.
