Hi guys,as the title really I'm looking for a new set of tyres (all four).

Initially I was set on the Eagle F1, but it doesn't seem a huge stretch to go for the AD08R's.

The car (Mk1 Tuscan) will be mainly used for summer touring, with the occasional B-Road blast.

Will the AD08R's be a bad choice? Is the warm up times and general comfort over the Eagle F1 a lot different?

I'm also not planning a visit to the track.

Does all the suggest the F1 is the better choice?

Tyre thread eh? Hasn't been one of those for a few minutes.

Searchy Searchy and the numerous threads will reveal the often expressed opinions of these tyres.

If you find the most recent other thread - tyres tyres tyres, this is discussed there.

Psersonally, I would go AD08s over Eagle F1s every time.

Eagle F1s - Similar to the Toyos - rubbish - people say they have great wet performance, I think this is because they disperse a lot of water, however their underlying performance (grip) is so pants to start with, I'm not convinced. They hate being on the edge of grip and the tyre walls are way to soft.

My only choice is the Yokohama AD08R : reasonable price (the last time I looked for TVR sizing) and the best performance/balance of tread depth to start with, stickiness and wet weather performance i.e. grip in all conditions. I have used these on the road and on track and while everyone else is tiptoeing around in slippery conditions, you feel ultimate trust in the rubber beneath you. If you do lose grip, they seem to slide and then re grip really well again inspiring confidence. Compare this to the T1R / T1S and it is night and day

If you don't plan to hit the track I'd get the Eagle F1s.

I run the AD08s for much the same use. Love them. They even looked after me in some hideous weather (back from LM last year for example).

I've tried both, albeit AD08s on a Cerb and Eagle F1s on a T350. As soon as the T350 wears out the F1s, I'll be straight back to the AD08s. They are grippier, more progressive and perfectly happy to be used in the wet, despite my initial concerns that they'd be a bit of a handful.

Thanks guys.

I know there have been a lot of tyre threads, but I couldn't find much on people comparing these two directly, specifically with road use in mind.

Looks like they come in around an extra £90 total

I've gone from the Eagle F1's to the AD08r's on my mk2 Tuscan. My initial thought was that i'd made a mistake due to the much harder sidewalls on the AD08, the ride quality really was quite a bit worse. If you have adjustable suspension (i'm on Nitrons) then you can soften things up a bit and they start to work really well. I haven't tested the wet grip at all but i have no doubt in the dry they are grippier than the F1's.

If i was to do it again, i'd go F1 for a car that won't see a track, and is used all year round. If like me to tend the hibernate in the winter then the AD08r is a very good shout. Plus it has a flame patterned tread so looks much cooler biggrin

Have you tried the AD08R's to compare though?

I wouldn't worry about it - These threads always go the same way

1) Someone asks for tyre advice.
2) Those that have actually compared different tyres in a variety of situations respond with good advice.
3) Those that have no idea recommend the obvious rubbish choices based on marketing (Toyo or Eagle F1)
4) People buy rubbish tyres

Autosolos, rallys and road use in a variety of cars with all the tyres discussed above. My recommendation for road use on a Tuscan - AD08R

I run AD08's, I have run them on track and in some pretty bad weather. I have not had the F1's on my Sag but have driven someones with them, I think the AD08's are a brilliant all round tyre and that would be my choice.

I've tried AD08Rs on track and on road regarding some comments. I personally would have risked the AD08Rs if it were my own car and have done and loved it (on my RST I was sketchier and risked the Nankang NS-2Rs, a great tyre). But I am also aware that alot of people I know favour wet grip over dry more than I do. Hence why I recommended the Eagle F1s.

It's all to easy to be judgemental, sorry, make assumptions.
