Hi All, a friend and I are planning a road trip to the Geneva Motor show this year instead of our annual pilgrimage to Le Mans.

As I have never been to the show before I just wondered if anyone had advice on the do's and don'ts of the show and or Geneva itself.

Also we are planning to take a couple of days to get there hopefully via an interesting route so any tips on that would be appreciated also.

look forward to hearing your thoughts

Book your hotel well in advance - there are cheaper options in the city centre and outside the city, but when the exhibition halls are in use it gets VERY pricey around the airport. The halls are right next to the airport and have decent public transport access - city hotels give you a free travel pass for your stay.

Doesn't take long to look around the city - there's a large lake and a small old town and the United Nations do tours if you're interested smile

I've not driven in Geneva itself, only the East side of Switzerland, as we were transiting to Italy via the Gotthard Pass and tunnel. The mountain roads can be amazing but depends if they're fully open by March (I expect they are but worth confirming as the tunnels are dull by comparison). Make sure you stop at the border crossing and buy the motorway pass, assuming that still operates. They don't stop you at the border by default to make you buy one, but apparently they're quite good at sending the fines later! Note my experience is from 2009 so things may have changed.

The Swiss aren't amused by speeding.

Mulhouse would be worth a detour to see the Schlumpf collection if you like Bugattis and if you plan a circular route rather than a there and back.
