NHS vs Private Dentist - is it worth it?

Been at the same practice as both private and "council", weirdly, had much better care as nhs, think was down to the individual dentist though, current one is a real pro, young and fairly new to dentistry but so interested, helpful and not afraid to ask his boss for a second opinion.
The time I was private there I felt scammed and rushed through, dentist arrived late and started before anaesthetic was working, got grumpy when I objected !

There should be no difference in the quality of care based upon your clinical need as presented; the CQC ensure this.
If your concern is more of an aesthetic one, then private dentistry will be required.

British dentistry is just about the worst in the developed world. Black teeth, completely unnecessary extractions, shoddy scaling, inadequate anaesthetic, rushed appointments, etc., etc.
So, you have to research hard, to find the few that are any good, and then go private.
Use a private-only dentist AND hygienist (not a public-private hybrid).
And then make sure the private dentist does not rip you off. Challenge every single thing they recommend. Don't let them bully you. It is your mouth, not theirs. Private dentists will treat you like a walking cashpoint. They will push you for a £3k implant, rather than a £500 root canal. Don't be afraid to use two dentists and get second opinions.
In short, private dentist, all day long. But treat them with (friendly) suspicion and question *everything* they say. Know one dentist (old schoolfriend) who will routinely give patients unnecessary treatment when he needs a new part for his 911 or a new handbag for the wife
