Straight to the point then.
Do i save til im 21 in September and buy a Focus ST (mk2) with a bit of money spare BUT money will likely be tight due to running costs.
OR do i buy a little Fiesta ST (mk6) when i get my 2 years no claims in May and save up til im in a better financial position to buy a Focus ST and mod the flip out of it with the money spare.
BTW i currently drive a gutless uncomfortable corsa c 1.2 and i cant bare another minute. And I love my Fords too

Don't waste money on a car is my advice I'm only 24 the amount of money ive put into my track/kit car could have easily been a nice size deposit on a house by now.
At the end of the day a car is just a car very little places to actually use the full potential and people aren't really impressed but a car these days. Buy the cheapest and invest the rest in something else don't spunk it all on a car.

Trouble is i keep rationalizing buying any car at the minute that will give me more enjoyment than my gutless old corsa. Plus i was thinking that stepping from a 75bhp corsa to a potentially 300bhp focus could be too much of a big step. Was just asking to see if anyone has been in a similar position

I wouldn't let others sway your decision. You have to make your own way (mistakes) from time to time.Do you want a mortgage or a car that makes you smile? Either way, be lucky - life's short.
buy the car you want, i went from a 100hp fiat to a modified leon cupra approx 280bhp i didnt die. i also ride bikes and have driven lots of silly vehicles as long as you respect the vehicle it wont bite you, get in a 300bhp focus st and try ragging the ass off it like your corsa then yeah it may nip you!
also mk6 fiesta ST's are getting silly expensive to insure, i owned mine (i was well and truly underwhelmed by it) and it was £500 odd to insure ive had quotes recently for them coming in at £1000ish id probably insure a focus for less.

So long as you are sensible the power increase should pose no problem and the fact you have raised the issue suggests you are. I went from a Smart Roadster to a Z4 and managed to keep it out of hedges and ditches so don't let headline power figures sway your decision making but also don't think that power is the be all and end all either.
300bhp is not a standard ST though either is it? Are you planning on doing the tuning yourself or buying one ready modified? If the former the power increase will be gradual and if the latter I should imagine some maps are far more driveable than others but I have no knowledge on Fords so this is something others can advise on better than me.
I went from a mk6 fiesta ST to a mk2.5 focus ST, focus is better in every way (apart from additional running costs and tax etc..) just be prepared to part with a fair amount of cash for fuel and stuff. If you can comfortably afford to run a car that'll do les than 20mpg if you don't do much motorway driving then go for it. If not put it towards a house deposit, much safer investment..
Cheers for all the replied lads. Think il be baring another 8 months of corsa sh*tness and then buy the Focus. Like a few of you have said lifes too short and the petrolhead in me says i should get the focus anyways. Would go and buy one tomorrow if it wasnt for the extortionate amount of money it will cost to insure

I went from a 100bhp mini to a 240bhp Audi S1 (that I had remapped to 320bhp within weeks) at 21yo. Have to say it was the most exciting experience I've had in car ownership so far (if a little scary at times), that first feeling of serious power under your right-foot takes some getting used to and will probably never happen again.
Even going from the S1 to my current M240i was much less of a shock to the system as its not such a leap in performance (or first time), although more about going from 4wd security to rwd sideways fun.
In other words go for it with the ST!!!
Save for a bit longer and get the car you can afford to run comfortably.
I did this at 21 when I bought a R26 Megane but I was also able to save a huge chunk of cash each month to afford a house deposit by 23 ... decide which is a priority for you (Once you hear that 5pot you will have decided
