Not sure if this has been covered, but some pretty steep fine increases that are linked to income are coming into play fairly soon. Because, as we all know, speed is the only killer that matters. Incompetent driving is a naturally a by product of speed and all the kittens will die if we do 80 on a motorway.

I have no qualms in adhering to 30 and 40 mph zones. They are rightly restricted. But having driven 150+mph on an autobahn and not blown up and killed anyone else I really do think we need to look more closely at the cause of accidents rather than attribute it to speed.

I know phones are being targeted, but how a out making drivers better equipped to drive at speed by making it much harder to get the licence in the first place and including motorway practice?

Presumably people don't get caught speeding at the moment because "The fines are cheap enough" and for most people presumably it's the points that matter more than the fine.

Not entirely sure I see the issue tbh?

I wonder if the fines are based on gross or nett income after tax?

The repoint being that even a minor indiscretion could end up with a hefty fine rather than the usual £100.

Yes the points matter more but if phones go up to 6 points instantly, I'm sure motorway points could equally rise.
