Hi I'm looking for some opinions in relation to my next car which will be either: (i) second hand Ferrari California at around £95,000 which gets a decent 2009/2010 model OR (ii) second hand Maserati GTS at around £75,000 which gets a three year old version and catches the most up to date refresh. Let's forget about the £20,000 difference because it's not a huge difference when it comes to the monthly payments.

From what I can see:

Ferrari
- better badge
- better tech and nicer to drive
- convertible
- Slightly unloved

Maserati
- looks great
- proper rear seats
- the sound is amazing
- really old model

All assistance appreciated.

Thanks

I was quite put off by the California when it first came out. It was a front engined V8 2+2 foldy metal roof car with odd styling. Then reviews stating it was aimed at female Ferrari drivers and rumours of it being a Maserati and badged a Ferrari at the last minute to make more money.

But, having been in one I do quite like them, offering a daily Ferrari proposition compared to the F430.

The California will certainly hold its value compared to any Maserati which will drop like a stone so it will depend on how long you intend to keep it.

Have you considered an SL? Ok, it doesn't have the flair but for roughly half the money you could be in an SL63 AMG?

The Ferrari has dropped 60k the Maser 40k, personally I'd grab the Maser having had a Sportline I can happily recommend one in fact I will have another one in a couple of years.

Maserati and Ferrari offer very different driving experiences. The California is lighter and faster/nimble. The Maserati is more of a GT. The Maser offers more usable back seats and a surprisingly decent boot. The soundtrack is amazing. I'd say if you are looking at the Cali, avoid the very early 2009 models due to possible roof and DCT issues. The Cali interior is a little more up to date and boasts leather everywhere.

Ferraris are usually serviced annually, whereas the Maser can be serviced every 2 years.

I was in the market for a 4 seater sports car and plumped for the Maser GT. Personally, I like the GT looks over the California. The California being a Ferrari is a little more exotic in name though. I'd say both have the same level of rarity when spotting around town.
